Album released in Spain with a collection of 13 'nabaneras' performed by four vocal groups well-known in the Catalan region and particularly in the Costa Brava (Girona), where there is a long tradition of interest in this genre. The CD is performed by the vocal groups 'Pescadors', ' Peix Fregit', 'Terra endins' and 'Cap Roig'. To highlight the vocal polyphony of 'Cap Roig' with cuts like 'La sirena' or 'A la Habana me voy, niña' and 'Terra endins' with 'Adiós mi peninsula hermosa' y 'Adiós mi Cuba'. Overall this CD offers a worthy tribute to that music so popular, the 'habanera', in voices that have preserved for years its romantic sailor fervor and musical warmth.

This was the last of the wonderful series of fifteenth-century song sets issued by L'Oiseau-Lyre Florilegium under the initiative of the late Peter Wadland. Like the others—the complete Dufay songs and the complete Chansonnier Cordiforme—it was hardly intended for continuous listening throughout and therefore sits far better in CD format, where songs can be selected individually and repeated for more concentrated listening. Also like the others, it is a touch uneven in quality: perhaps two-thirds of the pieces here receive magnificent performances that go straight to the centre of the music, while a few merely skim the surface.
