Khatia Buniatsivili

Pianist Khatia Buniatishvili specialized mostly in virtuoso repertory in the early years of her tenure with the Sony Classical label, but she goes in a different direction with Labyrinth, a collection of mostly slow, reflective pieces from various periods and in various styles. The labyrinth involved might be a winding path through musical styles or through an individual soul. The program is of the sort that one shouldn't try to hard to pin down; Buniatishvili posted on social media (October 9, 2020) that "the voice you hear is the voice of a human being – my voice, your voice," but it's quite evocative.

He is now continuing on this path - alongside the young, multi-award-winning Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili.

Khatia Buniatishvili’s first Schubert recording includes Schubert’s great last Piano Sonata (D 960), the 4 popular Impromptus and Ständchen (arr.by Liszt). Khatia will be performing the repertoire on a worldwide tour, including London’s Barbican on 1st April. Khatia is one of the today’s leading classical pianists, having performed at the most prestigious venues and events including New York’s Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms at the London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall and Salzburg Festival.

Pianist Khatia Buniatishvili was signed to the Sony Classical label in her early 20s after a series of major competition prizes and began a top-level international career. She has said that some of her interpretations are influenced by Georgian folk music. Buniatishvili's international renown comes in large part from her recordings. She was signed to the Sony Classical label and released her debut album, Khatia Buniatishvili Plays Franz Liszt, in 2011. Her 2012 release, Chopin, won the Echo Klassik Young Artists' Award. Buniatishvili has remained on Sony's roster, recording mostly core virtuoso 19th and early 20th century repertory. In 2020, she released the recital Labyrinth, featuring an eclectic program ranging from Bach to Philip Glass and Serge Gainsbourg. Buniatishvili lives in Paris.
