First of all, I’ve always liked Dweezil Zappa and admired his reverence for his influences. A fluent and stellar guitar player, he has continued to not only survive but thrive in his career despite the huge shadow of his genius father Frank (it’s true). Today, Dweezil and brother Ahmet keep Frank Zappa’s music alive on the live circuit with a band that even includes some previous members of father Frank’s ensemble. His musical journey through the 80′s and 90′s combined everything from hair-band influences to classical to Zappa-meets-They-Might-Be-Giants eclecticisms.

The perfect soundtrack to a pill-crazed romp through L.A.'s dirtiest and lowest whorehouses, 13 Above the Night is a record as much about style as substance. But, then again, that's all that it really aspires to be. Reveling in dark sexuality, drug use, and the occult, it conjures up the spirit of the lost of America's cities remarkably. Celebrating the surface level as it does, it is difficult to listen to this record with anything close to a critical ear. It is a loud, unsubtle album that is nevertheless danceable and seductive. The production team of Buzz McCoy and Groovie Mann pair percolating synth grooves and techno rhythms with buzzing guitars and almost R&B-style female background singers.

San Diego slamming brutal death metal band, Pathology, formed back in 2006 by Dave Astor (formerly of Cattle Decapitation and The Locust) have just dropped their latest track, Hieroglyphs On Cement Walls, taken from their up-and-coming album, Reborn to Kill. Produced and mastered by Zack Ohren at Sharkbite studios (All Shall Perish, Decrepit Birth), the artwork for Reborn to Kill has been once again created by the mighty Par Olofsson. The record also features guest vocals by Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder. Astor comments: "This is by far the best Pathology to date. Everything came out very heavy. We added some new elements this time around and we are excited to see what everyone thinks. We also brought back the evil doctor from the dead so he can continue running his zombie army!"
