Nicolas, fils aine d'une famille riche sous l'emprise d'une mère redoutable femme d'affaires, passe ses journées dans la grande ville voisine. Il y travaille, loin de son milieu d'origine, comme laveur de carreaux et plongeur dans un bistrot. Parfaitement lucide sur son cercle ferme de snobs cupides, il ne remarque pas du tout la bassesse de ses nouvelles relations : commerçants, petits-bourgeois, jeunes voyous. Comment cette ville va-t-elle accueillir ce fanfaron de Nicolas, nonchalant et crédule ?

Actor Tom Hardy loves animals but rather than make a glossy celebrity wildlife doc he’s highlighting the devastating effect of poaching in Africa. Hardy throws himself into the subject in a serious but unpretentious way. Travelling to Botswana, Tanzania and South Africa, he meets rangers, farmers, conservationists and journalists to ask simple questions just as you or I would. He also swears a bit, which we all might do when invited to feed oranges to a massive wild elephant or pat its huge belly. The facts and horrendous pictures of slaughtered rhinos and elephants speak for themselves, though. More than 600 rhinos were shot by poachers in 2012 because their horns are more valuable than gold.

This adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel 'Farewell, My Lovely', renamed for the American market to prevent filmgoers mistaking it for a musical (for which Powell was already famous) has private eye Philip Marlowe hired by Moose Malloy, a petty crook just out of prison after a seven year stretch, to look for his former girlfriend, Velma, who has not been seen for the last six years. The case is tougher than Marlowe expected as his initially promising enquiries lead to a complex web of deceit involving bribery, perjury and theft, and where no one's motivation is obvious, least of all Marlowe's.
