The full story of the incredible Janie Jones recording career, from her first big hit "Witches brew" in 1965 to her 1983 punk comback supported by "The Clash", who wrote "The House of the Ju Ju Queen" specially for Janie (and backed her on the single). As bizarre and eclectic set of singles as you would imagine from the woman dubbed "London's Vice Queen" by the News Of The World and jailed in 1973, this fascinating CD includes all her a and b sides plus several unissued numbers. The CD concentrates on her musical career with the likes of Jimmy Webb, Marc Bolan and others, and includes detailed notes plus loads of great pictures and cuttings, and a discography. The sixties have never swung quite like this before!

As in his previous solo album, The Thunderthief makes it very clear exactly what John Paul Jones brought to Led Zeppelin: driving bass, epic compositions, and impeccable musicianship. It's also very clear what he wasn't doing for Zeppelin: writing the lyrics. The tracks with words on the album are awkward and occasionally laughable, particularly the title track, which sounds suspiciously like a jab at Robert Plant, and "Angry Angry," a presumably mock punk song. Both detract from what is otherwise a very impressive album. Jones plays nearly every instrument on the record and mixes sounds from seemingly every continent and era he could think of.

R.I.P. Mr. Quincy Delight Jones Jr. (March 14, 1933 – November 3, 2024)

A much-needed look at an overlooked side of the genius of Quincy Jones – not his jazz work, not his productions for famous soul artists, but instead his huge legacy of soundtrack material – a part of Q's career that really took off in the 60s! By the time he started working in films, Jones had already had a decade under his belt as one of the hippest arrangers, leaders, and composers in jazz – and the film business really respected those talents, and allowed Quincy to bring some really fresh styles into play – modes that really opened up the vibe of American cinema, and also paved the way for the funky styles of the 70s! As that decade approached, Jones left behind the cinema to take on some more higher-profile records of his own – but all the charms of those great albums can be found here at their roots – in this stunning collection of soundtrack material, some of which has never been on CD. The package is way more than just a sampler – and includes an album's worth of material from the films The Pawnbroker, Slender Thread, Mirage, The Deadly Affair, In The Heat Of The Night, In Cold Blood, Walk Don't Run, The Italian Job, Lost Man, and John & Mary – plus two versions of the love theme from The Getaway, and a bonus CD with 18 tracks – titled Q's highlights, and featuring tracks from his Mercury records – plus more by Billy Preston, Arthur Prysock, Bill Cosby, Shirley Horn, Letta Mbulu, Toots Thielemans, and others. Even features the "Sanford & Son" and "Ironside" themes!

The achievements of Quincy Delight Jones Jr. as a multi Grammy and Oscar-winning record producer, musician, songwriter, composer, arranger (as well as film and television producer) are the stuff of legend. His incredible career spans 70 years in the entertainment industry and began in the 1950's when the young man from the South Side of Chicago started out as a Jazz trumpeter before soon becoming a popular arranger and successful band leader. This exclusive 10 CD box set presents those legendary beginnings with twenty original albums that showcase Qs wide range of musical talents. The music ranges from the big band sounds of his own all-star orchestras via arrangements for trumpeter Art Farmer, on to albums he produced, arranged and conducted for singers Peggy Lee and Dinah Washington. After listening to these selections, it becomes obvious why Time magazine named the man later famous for producing the biggest hits of Michael Jacksons one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century.
