Baiba Skride (1981-) is a Latvian classical violinist. She was the winner of the Queen Elisabeth Violin Contest in 2001, and has performed around the world. Her new album offers a very own, but absolutely sensible mix and uses her concert-experience to its advantage – recorded live at Munich, this captures Skride in a pensive and yet explosive mood. The dark waters of the first movement of Shostakovich’ Vilolin Concerto are juxtaposed with a fulminant follow-up, while the saddened sighs of the “Passacaglia” dissolve into a cold, yet ethereal solo. Monumental and massive, this is like a musical totem. Janacek’s “The Wandering of a Little Soul” is equally intense, offering naive folk-melodies in one instant, nerve-wracking, almost minimal-music-like movements and fiery erruptions in the other.

Return Of The Fabric Four is the first new recording in 18 years by original Acid Jazz heroes Corduroy. They are straight back in the groove trading on the influences that made them such a totem in the high days of Acid Jazz and the early days of brit-pop. A heady mix of swinging sixties soundtracks, pop art imagery and a touch of the Who.

MR. BIG will release its tenth studio album, 'Ten', on Friday, July 12 featuring 11 new original tracks! In a tribute to their late drummer Pat Torpey, Martin, Gilbert, and bassist Billy Sheehan have enlisted the exceptional talents of Nick D'Virgilio on drums for 'Ten', which was produced by Jay Ruston and MR. BIG. In the midst of their final tour - The BIG Finish - MR. BIG, inspired by the legions of fans that shared in their goodbye over the past year, wanted to say a final farewell with the undertaking of a brand-new studio album. Culminating over three decades of musical partnership, Martin, Gilbert, and Sheehan, with the help of D’Virgilio, ignite their spark once more and take a new form with the forthcoming 'Ten'.

Danish master percussionist Marilyn Mazur and Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek join forces for this beautiful album.

Present's dark vision is alive and well (so to speak) on this live disk, and the vision is perhaps even more congenial to the modern audience than it was at the time of its inception back in 1981. Present's leader, electric guitarist Roger Trigaux, had also been a founding member of the slightly earlier and equally dark Univers Zero, and in the late '70s and early '80s, the music of these two Belgian groups was strong stuff indeed and strictly for cultists…
