This recording combines all the major works of bassoon repertoire written between 1770 and 1830 with Mozart's magnificent concerto as the undisputed masterpiece. He was able to bring the full range of bassoon's possibilities into play, making use of its entire tonal range in the opening movement. Matthias Rácz, probably one of the best bassoon players of our generation, presents this work as well as the two concertos of Hummel and Weber with the greatest of ease.

Ödön Rácz is a fourth generation contrabassist. Great grandfather and grandfather played in ensembles, his father in an orchestra. The son, born in Budapest in 1981, also chose the same path. He has been a member of Vienna’s State Opera orchestra since 2004 and as such, the successor to his prominent teacher Alois Posch. Rácz studied the orchestral literature with him and Posch is still today his most important role model as an orchestra musician. His idol as a solo musician is also a former Vienna Philharmonic member Ludwig Streicher, whose soloist tracks Rácz follows on this recording. For Streicher, the most prominent contrabassist of his time, the concerti from Vanhal, Dittersdorf and Bottesini were also his declared favourites.

Often cited as the most distinguished neoclassical composer of post-war America, Robert Muczynski (1929-2010) was born in Chicago to Polish parents. This album of chamber music surveys an output which is always restless and unpredictable thanks to the embrace of both Bartokian harmonies and structures as well as the more lyrical yet open-ended language of Samuel Barber.

Following the success of their Odradek Records releases, 'Flashback' and 'French Connection', Duo Ultima returns with an irresistible programme of 'Dances & Delights' for saxophone and piano, including pieces by Ibert and Piazzolla.
Guido Baumer (saxophone) and Aladar Racz (piano) have chosen a delectable selection of pieces for this album, each of them exhibiting elements of dance or comedy. There are two Bozza pieces inspired by the 'Commedia dell'arte': 'Scaramouche' and 'Pulcinella', and a suite of sweets by Delvincourt, whose 'Croquembouches', dating from the 1920s, features an array of movements inspired by different desserts.

Ever since their appearance in Europe over a thousand years ago, the “Roma” – the ethnonym that the Roma use to describe themselves – have been labeled with derogatory, disparaging, and ethnically insulting words such as “G*psy”, “Zigeuner”, “Zingari”, “Cygan”, etc…, words derived from the Greek “Atzinganoi”, which translates as “untouchable”. These designations reveal a brutal social hierarchy which continues to plague and condemn the Roma to a pariah status in many places world-wide, subjecting them to constant discrimination and persecution - punctuated by infernal periods of enslavement and genocide.

Philharmonix mix classical, jazz, folk, Latin, and pop music – with a dash of pure musical passion. On Philharmonix new album The Vienna Berlin Music Club Vol. 2 is the (almost programmatically to be understood) Queen anthem "Do not stop me now" next walzerseligem Johann Strauss, the swinging Beethoven next to the jazzy Gershwin - and a dancing Bartók sees himself confronted by the creeping Pink Panther theme of Henry Mancini.
