While it was captured over the course a single night, there’s a rich lifetime’s worth of music packed into The Iron Man: Live at Smoke. If it’s a slight overstatement to say that the album represents an autobiography in song, that’s only because 82-year-old jazz master Harold Mabern tells his story in every note that he plays. That’s as true of the melodies he’s been interpreting for more then half a century – as many of the tunes on The Iron Man are – as it is of the always inspired music that flows spontaneously from the great pianist’s fingers.

"Night Dreamer" is Wayne Shorter's fourth album, recorded and released in 1964. The legendary tenor saxophonist is joined by a star-studded lineup: Lee Morgan on trumpet, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman, and Elvin Jones on drums. This well-rounded Blue Note debut is comprised of all Shorter originals, and is a classic outing from an historic tenor player.

Tenor saxophonist John Coltrane was one of the most innovative, influential and respected figures in jazz history. In 1957, Coltrane created a masterpiece with the release of "Blue Train". The album has been widely regarded by both fans and critics as one of the greatest jazz records of all time.

This Blu-Ray Pure Audio edition features previously released alternate takes from 'Ultimate Blue Train'. Also an unreleased take of 'Lazy Bird' and an alternate of 'Blue Train' that was released only in Japan.

"A Night In Tunisia" is Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers’ 1960 classic. The ensemble which includes Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons, Jymie Merritt and Art Blakey is in exhilarating form. In the original liner notes by Barbara J. Gardner, she wrote: "This album is a prime example of Blakey's expressed desire to showcase his young talent. Not only is there extended solo room for the musicians; further, all but the title tune were written and arranged by the talented junior jazz citizens in his group". Taking Turns, recorded in New York's Avatar Studio a decade ago, finds Danish guitarist Jakob Bro joined by a multi-generational cast of improvisers, highly distinctive players all. Lee Konitz, Andrew Cyrille, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran and Thomas Morgan lend their energies to a session that bypasses conventions of the "all-star" band and puts the emphasis on teamwork. Bro's space-conscious music encourages fresh responses: an atmospheric hint, or a fragment of gentle melody, opening up new trails to explore. "My compositions are about catching a glimpse of a feeling, sketching it down and then unfolding it as we record", said Jakob Bro at the time.
