'Harmonics of the Night' is the third in what he conceived of as a trilogy of recordings from guitarist Andy Summers. Following on from 'Metal Dog' and 'Triboluminescence', 'Harmonics of the Night' began it's life as a guitar improvisation for a museum installation of Andy's own photos.

Andy Summers' World Gone Strange was released in 1991. This album is comprised of guitar-based instrumental music. Ten tracks are contained. Altogether, I find the songwriting to be gratifying, the musicianship to be impeccable, and the sound quality to be satisfying. As for Summers' guitar work, it is proficient and pleasing. Even though I like all the compositions, my favorites are "World Gone Strange," "Bacchante," and "Song for M." "World Gone Strange" is a smooth, classy piece with pretty guitar playing from Summers; also, nice piano work is included. "Bacchante," one of my favorite instrumentals in general, is an indispensable gem–it is serene and displays a beautiful guitar line from Summers (keyboard and piano playing are also presented). The laid-back "Song for M" exhibits tasteful guitar work from Summers; this cut also furnishes keyboarding. When it comes to the CD insert, it includes two photos of Summers–one color and one black and white. ~sauerkraut

Recorded sporadically over five years from 2015 to 2019, Sixty Summers was shaped profoundly by Stone’s key collaborators on the album: Thomas Bartlett, aka Doveman, and Annie Clark, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer known as St. Vincent. Bartlett and Clark were the symbiotic pair Stone needed to realise her first pop vision. A wizard of production and songwriting, Bartlett helped coax Sixty Summers’ independent, elemental spirit from Stone, writing and recording over 50 demos with her at his studio in New York.

Though perhaps best (or at least better) known for his work with the Police, guitarist Andy Summers seems to be doing rather well for himself. He may not be filling arenas and attracting screaming teenage girls, but their mothers can scream pretty loud as well, and as it is to them that Summers now appears to be playing, his maturity and ability to look forward work in his favor. Backed by bassist Tony Levin and drummer Gregg Bissonette (except on "Big Thing," which features the touring band of Jerry Watts on basses and Bernie Dresel on cymbal-laden drum set), Summers works well as a frontman. In fact, the lack of single-named eco-conscious smoothies and relatives of famous composers allows Summers to spread out and explore his music…

Rock / Contemporary Rock / Alternative

Former Police guitarist Andy Summers is no stranger to collaborations, and has paired himself with a bevy of intriguing artists (Robert Fripp, Bill Evans, Fernanda Takai) over the course of his 12 studio albums. Jazz, fusion, avant-garde, and tropicalia have all been explored by this prolific guitar hero, but the one thing he hasn't done since the Police's 1986 breakup is form a legitimate rock band. Working with Rob Giles of L.A. super-songwriter combo the Rescues in what turned out to be a full-on band project, Summers revisits the punchy pop/rock style that made the Police one of the biggest and most influential acts of the 1980s.

Guitarist Andy Summers long ago shed his Police-man's uniform to take a stab at being a jazz fusion guitarist, and this is his toughest test, tackling 13 of Thelonious Monk's most well known pieces. His backing band has some considerable talent; drummer Peter Erskine, organist Joey DeFrancesco, trumpeter Walt Fowler and cellist Hank Roberts are outstanding jazz musicians, and prove their mettle throughout. The CD overall is inconsistent, starting with an out-of-tune bass and an inaccurate reading of the title track.
