Matizes is Djavan's 18th studio album, and another exemplary display of his unique style of composition and singing. As usual, Djavan writes songs that incorporate elements of jazz, bossa, soul, rock, blues, pop, and just about everything under the sun that is immaculately elegant, and yet that can never be pinpointed to any specific genre. Similarly, his lyrics exude a languid romanticism, although, as in "Imposto," he may also occasionally indulge in social criticism – of course, those who do not speak Portuguese would never be able to comprehend its incensed subject matter, since Djavan's vocal delivery remains as suave as ever. However, as accomplished as it is, Matizes is no masterpiece, but just a fine addition to Djavan's impeccable discography.

The first AIDS-related casualty among the elite class of Brazilian rock & roll stars (Legiao Urbana's Renato Russo would be next, and arguably ultimately eclipse him in stature), Cazuza galvanized a nation with his dramatic public struggle against his deadly ailment, marking himself for pop martyrdom even before this career retrospective was released to validate his worthiness to it. Touching briefly upon his early days at the front of Rio de Janeiro's Barão Vermelho via the smash hit "Todo Amor que Houver Nessa Vida" (the band's signature tune, "Bete Balanco," is sadly ignored), this mostly live set quickly shifts focus toward his equally successful and much more eclectic solo flight.

« Voici une superbe anthologie, en 4 CDs, qui couvre l’ensemble de l’oeuvre phénoménalement variée du compositeur brésilien Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959). Le Brésil a ceci de merveilleux en musique : les frontières entre musique « savante » et musique « populaire » n’existent pas, ou plutôt : ont été abolies, grâce à des musiciens, tels Villa-Lobos justement, qui ont, instinctivement parce que le pays lui-même est métissé depuis sa fondation, des musiciens qui ont donc pratiqué ce métissage constant en musique, entre les modèles « classiques » venus d’Europe et les mélodies et rythmes locaux.
