This is an awesome 2-CD collection of folk, freak-folk and folk-rock rarities from Holland, mostly recorded in the mid-to-late 1970s, when folk-rock and psychedelic folk from abroad had really suffused the Dutch music scene. There are obvious influences from British folk-rockers like Fairport Convention, but also from the Celtic folk revival, and from the freak-folk and sunshine pop scenes of the US and UK. Great stuff, mostly sung in Dutch, but with a few English-language songs that give a glimpse of just how hippie-dippy this stuff actually was. If you like rare, weird, lovely music, you'll want to check this out. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Music Guide)

GRAMOPHONE Magazine Editor's Choice. Stefan Temmingh is a member of the new young generation of world-class recorder players. Born in Cape Town, he comes from a Dutch-South-African family of musicians and now lives in Munich. Being an early music specialist, he plays internationally with his baroque ensemble at renowned festivals and concert series, and can also be heard as a member of ensembles of all sizes in Europe, Asia and Africa. His fine playing is regularly compared to the style of the legendary Frans Brüggen. On this collaboration with the Capricornus Consort Basel, he makes use of his wide array of technical and musical resources to render a reference version of Vivaldi’s Recorder Concertos.

AllMusic Review by Steve Leggett
While Herman's Hermits will undoubtedly never get the critical respect afforded other British Invasion groups like the Beatles, the Who, the Rolling Stones, or the Kinks, as a group they weren't as silly as most people remember them. OK, maybe they were – certainly when on camera – but they and their producer Mickie Most had the good sense to pick solid songs to cover (the Goffin & King nugget "I'm into Something Good," "Silhouettes," originally done by the Rays, and Sam Cooke's great "Wonderful World"), which allowed them to sustain a hit-making career long past the end of chart action for such rival pop-oriented British Invasion acts as Gerry & the Pacemakers and Billy J. Kramer. This four-disc set covers the Hermits' years with Most (1964 to 1972) about as well as one could in terms of content, representing everything the group did with him, including a brace of rarities, unreleased tracks, and sides that singer Peter Noone recorded with Most as a solo artist on the producer's RAK label. For most Hermits fans, it will seem like too much of a good thing, as all of the group's hits have reappeared numerous times in compilations too ubiquitous to list – but they would be making a terrible mistake to pass up this set. Indeed, if anything, this quadruple-disc set is too much of a great thing, if such a thing is possible (though with one important flaw). And that makes it well worth saving up for.

This group is further evidence that jazz is a universal music knowing neither language nor geographic boundary. The countries represented at this session are Italy, Holland, England/ Belgium (Philip Catherine), and the United States, all recording for a Dutch label. The session is a bit of a departure by leader and bop artist Enrico Pieranunzi in that it is devoted to the exploration of standard material. Perhaps this is due to the presence of one of the more lyrical guitar players around these days, former wunderkind Catherine. Whatever, Pieranunzi does not leave behind his use of modern jazz figures to give new luster to these standards.

The man for whom the term "crooner" was coined embodies a certain idea of elegant relaxation in music. An absolute Entertainer for two generations of Americans, a symbol of dad's song, he was nevertheless a great innovator in the field of musical entertainment. Although not necessarily always cited by European music historians, Bing Crosby was in the United States, for more than twenty years, a real titan of show biz : singer, comedian, television Man, the man was inescapable, inventor according to some of a category of artists at the same time attractive, elegant and simple, prototypes of an artistic personality at the same time distinguished and typically American.
