Nel giugno 1958 il bianco Richard Loving sposa Mildred, una donna nera. Il loro matrimonio viene considerato illegale e i due mandati in prigione. La loro sentenza però verrebbe sospesa nel caso in cui i due decidessero di lasciare lo stato. Pur accettando il compromesso, nei successivi nove anni i Loving impiegheranno tutte le loro forze per difendere il loro diritto di stare insieme e tornare nella loro casa.

Mildred et Richard Loving s’aiment et décident de se marier. Rien de plus naturel – sauf qu’il est blanc et qu’elle est noire dans l’Amérique ségrégationniste de 1958. L’État de Virginie où les Loving ont décidé de s’installer les poursuit en justice : le couple est condamné à une peine de prison, avec suspension de la sentence à condition qu’il quitte l’État. Considérant qu’il s’agit d’une violation de leurs droits civiques, Richard et Mildred portent leur affaire devant les tribunaux. Ils iront jusqu’à la Cour Suprême qui, en 1967, casse la décision de la Virginie. Désormais, l’arrêt « Loving v. Virginia » symbolise le droit de s’aimer pour tous, sans aucune distinction d’origine.

This CD is dedicated with appreciation and love to the first teacher who encouraged my talent as a singer: my husband Don Cox (Big Don) - R.I.H. I love you and I miss you. Not only was Don a great husband and dad, he was a consummate professional entertainer who has been displaying his diverse musical skill since the tender age of 13 when he made his professional debut. Don’s first recording in 1963 resulted in the release of “Just Can’t Win” and “What Can You Do For Me” on Chess Records with his group, The Carpets. Big Don performed with such luminaries as Jay McShann, Claude “Fiddler” Williams, Jimmy Witherspoon, Stanley Turrentine, and Eartha Kitt, just to name a few. Don studied arranging and orchestration under Willie Rice and wrote vocal arrangements for The Sincerest who later became Motown recording artist Blood Stone. His arranging skills are evident on this new CD release, Don Cox & The Princess: Touching You With Class, Ain’t That Loving You.

Otis Redding's third album presents his talent unfettered, his direction clear and his confidence emboldened, with fully half the songs representing a reach that extended his musical grasp. More than a quarter of this album is given over to Redding's version of songs by Sam Cooke, his idol, who had died the previous December. Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul is considered by many critics to be Redding's first great album. Recorded in April and July of 1965, it was released September 15th of that same year. The styles of Cooke and Redding couldn't have been more different; Cooke smooth and sure, Redding raw and pleading. But Redding's versions of "Shake" and "A Change Is Gonna Come" show how Cooke's sound and message helped shape Redding's Southern soul sound. Redding's singing reaches a new level of expressiveness with this as well as with covers of B.B. King's "Rock Me Baby" and the Motown hit "My Girl." This great album receives the full Analogue Productions reissue treatment here, starting with Kevin Gray's remaster from the original analogue tapes.
