For reasons unknown – and largely beyond comprehension – producers rejected Elmer Bernstein's completed score for Walter Hill's 1996 Yojimbo remake Last Man Standing in favor of an inappropriate electronic score by the otherwise unimpeachable Ry Cooder. Since both versions have been released, it's possible to compare them side by side, although it's difficult to fathom what the producers were thinking – a vivid orchestral effort wrought from classical cinematic idioms, Bernstein's menacing atmosphere seems perfectly attuned to Hill's violent milieu.

Original Television Soundtrack (OST) for the AMC series Preacher (2016-2019). The film music was written by Dave Porter who scored Breaking Bad, The Disaster Artist, Better Call Saul. Preacher is a 2016-2019 American supernatural horror black comedy television series based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, published by DC Comics. The series is created by Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen, stars Dominic Cooper, Joseph Gilgun, Ruth Negga, Lucy Griffiths, W. Earl Brown, Derek Wilson, Ian Colletti, Tom Brooke, Anatol Yusef, Graham McTavish. The fourth season would be the final season, the last episode released on September 29, 2019.

Damon Albarn’s music collective Electric Wave Bureau has composed the music for the upcoming fantasy adventure The Kid Who Would Be King. The film is written and directed by Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and stars Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Dean Chaumoo, Tom Taylor, Rhianna Dorris, Angus Imrie, Rebecca Ferguson and Patrick Stewart. The movie follows a twelve-year-old British schoolboy whose everyday problems are dwarfed by his discovery of the mythical sword Excalibur. Nira Park (Baby Driver, Hot Fuzz), Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Les Miserables, Darkest Hour) are producing the Working Title and Big Talk Pictures production. Electric Wave Bureau has previously been credited for scoring the 2012 drama Broken starring Tim Roth & Cillian Murphy and also produced songs for Luc Besson’s Lucy and both Paddington movies. The Kid Who Would Be King will be released in theaters nationwide on January 25, 2019 by 20th Century Fox.

This month, Mojo magazine once again revisits a classic album with the help of some of today’s best artists.
The Yellow Submarine film was released on July 17, 1968 and the Beatles soundtrack album followed six months later. In 1999, the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, a collection of music from that era, was released and it is this track listing that has mainly driven Yellow Submarine Resurfaces, the Mojo tribute. Covers range from Benjamin Francis Leftwich tackling With A Little Help From My Friends, Baxter Dury’s When I’m Sixty-Four, Thea Gilmore doing All You Need Is Love and Cornershop’s version of Love You To. Other artists involved include the wonderful Wooden Wand, Bill Wells & Aiden Moffat, Cornshed Sisters and Pete Shelley.

Dario Marianelli has been tapped to score the upcoming family movie sequel Paddington 2. The film is directed by Paul King who previously helmed the 2014 original movie and stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin and Imelda Staunton, as well as Ben Whishaw as the voice of the title character. They are joined by new cast members Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson. The movie finds Paddington happily settled with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens.

Disney+ has debuted the new trailer and key art for its upcoming release of “The Beatles Anthology.” Episodes 1-3 of the series launch on November 26, followed by Episodes 4-6 on November 27 and Episodes 7-9 on November 28. “The Beatles Anthology,” Apple Corps’ landmark, UK-produced documentary series exploring the life and times of the most influential and beloved band of all time, as told by The Beatles themselves, will make its streaming debut exclusively on Disney+ beginning November 26. Beautifully restored and expanded from eight to nine episodes, the series offers an unprecedented and intimate view of The Beatles’ legendary trajectory and inner workings. First released three decades ago, The Beatles’ eight-part “Anthology” series reinvented the music documentary. Instead of a standard treatment centered on an outside narrator and talking heads, “The Anthology” featured John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr candidly telling their own story, with all its complexities and contradictions. It introduced The Beatles to new generations of viewers and listeners and marked the start of a creative and commercial afterlife that continues to this day.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Original Soundtrack Recording is a soundtrack album by American jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi released on October 12, 2018 in the U.S. by Craft Recordings. A reissue containing original recordings and alternate takes sourced from the master reels was released on August 26, 2022.

Frank Zappa’s “200 Motels” turns 50! In celebration of FZ’s famous 1971 “Surrealistic Documentary,” Zappa Records, UMe and MGM are pleased to present an extensive 6-disc box set. Contains the original soundtrack remastered by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering along with a massive amount of never-before-heard audio documentary material surrounding the project. Unearthed from FZ’s Vault are original demos, studio outtakes, work mixes, interviews and movie ads along with newly discovered dialog reels revealing an early audio edit of the film. This incredible set contains a replica of the movie poster, a custom motel keychain, Do-Not-Disturb motel door hanger and the original 1971 soundtrack packaging along with new liner notes from Pamela Des Barres, Ruth Underwood and Vaultmeister, Joe Travers.

As Vince Guaraldi is honoured with the American Eagle Award by the National Music Council, Craft Recordings is celebrating Guaraldi’s 91st birthday by the definite edition of his iconic music for It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
