This is Jonathan Freeman-Attwood’s tenth solo project for Linn, ‘re-imagining’ repertoire for trumpet and piano as it might have been had history been different.

Trumpeter Jonathan Freeman-Attwood maintains quintuple careers as a performer, educational administrator, producer, writer, and broadcaster. He has been featured on a variety of recordings that are original in concept and draw on unusual repertories.Freeman-Attwood was born on November 4, 1961, in Woking, a southwestern exurb of London, to Harold Warren Freeman-Attwood, a military officer, and Marigold Diana Sneyd Philips Freeman-Attwood. After attending the Milton Abbey School, he enrolled at the University of Toronto, earning a bachelor's degree in music and first class honors.

"All In The Family" brings together two members of Chicago's Freeman family that have never been recorded together until now: legendary guitarist George Freeman (who celebrated his 88th birthday on April 10th, 2015) and world-renowned saxophonist Chico Freeman (George's nephew and Von Freeman's son.) The musical legacy of Chicago's Freeman Family continues on with "All in the Family." Certainly, the late, great leader of the family, tenor saxophonist Von Freeman is smiling somewhere today!

This is Jonathan Freeman-Attwood’s tenth solo project for Linn, ‘re-imagining’ repertoire for trumpet and piano as it might have been had history been different. Handel for Trumpet follows similar lines to the previous recordings, going against the grain by presenting a variety of musical genres from major figures before the existence of a modern chromatic trumpet and a grand piano. The programme here is divided, relatively straightforwardly, between concertos and arias and duets (from nine different operas and oratorios), with the brief excursion of an abridged keyboard work from one of the eight ‘Great Suites’. Once again, Jonathan teams up with arranger Timothy Jones to offer versions that bring a new lease to these works. A welcome addition to the trumpet repertoire!

Lawrence "Bud" Freeman (April 13, 1906 – March 15, 1991) was an American jazz musician, bandleader, and composer, known mainly for playing the tenor saxophone, but also able at the clarinet. He had a smooth and full tenor sax style with a heavy robust swing. He was one of the most influential and important jazz tenor saxophonists of the big band era. His major recordings were "The Eel", "Tillie's Downtown Now", "Crazeology", "The Buzzard", and "After Awhile", composed with Benny Goodman.

Produced in Nashville by Grammy-nominated Neilson Hubbard, Freeman skillfully tackles subjects such as parental expectations, childhood potential, and facing up to the possibility of falling short of those aspirations. These themes may be further understood when the context of Freeman's talented family is brought into the picture. With a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning brother, Martin, and Frazier Chorus indie-dance musician (signed to 4AD, Virgin) brother, Tim, one can imagine that the family outlook has always been to 'aim high'.
