Frédéric Chopin's music is closely associated with the piano and as a matter of fact most of his music is written for this instrument. French harpist Coline-Marie Orliac did not want to miss playing Chopin?s inspiring music and took the audacious task to transcribe it for harp. Among Chopin's signature works is her arrangement of the Ballade op. 23 No. 1, displaying to the listener her breathtaking virtuosity while always adding a fresh and more transparent sound to Chopin's music.
Quand tout Recommence is the third French and twelfth overall studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Tina Arena, which was released on 6 April 2018, in France. The album title, Quand tout Recommence translates to mean When Everything Restarts in English. Arena has stated that when she records in the French language, she is careful not to record French versions of her English language hits, as the meaning of the lyrics differ between languages. Arena notes that too often the intention of the song gets "lost in translation", therefore she has always chosen to write in both languages.
Marie Nishiyama is universally recognized as a rare artist who plays both the harpsichord and the historical harp. Nishiyama has collaborated with many musicians from a wide range of genres such as René Jacobs, Paddy Maloney of The Chieftains, Carlos Núñez, Michala Petri, Corina Marti, Mutsumi Hatano, Yosuke Yamashita and so on. Nishiyama has released many CDs with very good reputation. Her latest album is “J. S. Bach: Toccaten”(KCD-2073 / July 2019). After she took her master’s degree in harpsichord at Tokyo Music University, she studied with Rinaldo Alessandrini and Nicolau de Figueiredo (harpsichord), Heidrun Rosenzweik and Mara Galassi (historical harp), Jesper Christensen (Basso continuo, ensemble), and Pedro Memelsdorff (medieval ensemble) at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Nishiyama’s honors and awards include the first prize in the 11th Yamanashi Early Music Festival. For this second recording devoted to French Baroque music for two solo transverse flutes, Marie-Céline Labbé and Marion Treupel-Franck perform the six suites by Pierre Danican Philidor (1681 1731), pieces taken from the three collections published by the composer in Paris in 1717 and 1718. Written in a highly original style in which one senses the spirit of freedom blowing over Versailles and France during the regency of the Duke d’Orléans, these short suites, in addition to the principal dances in vogue at the court of Versailles in the early 18th century, each comprise a fugue.
True to the motto “Stay curious,” Audax Records offers a second excursion through the catalog of Greek-born composer Hélène Covatti and her husband Robert Dussaut. After an album devoted to the songs of the couple (ADX13722 with Adriana González and Iñaki Encina Oyón), here the Brüggen-Plank duo presents their works for violin and piano, some of them in premiere recordings. With extensive experience in the twentieth-century repertoire, Marie Radauer-Plank and Henrike Brüggen approach this music with flair and an impressive palette of colours and complete the album with works by composers close to the couple in Paris during the inter-war period.
Even under the risk of this sounding like an overstatement , I have no problem saying that Isabelle Boulay is the best Francophone singer today. Yes, even better than Patricia Kaas…Isabelle has a heart and soul that floods her music like a wave! Like many of the best Francophone singers today, Isabelle is a proud daughter of Quebec. But it is Quebec that should be proud of her!
This is definitely the best recording of Widor's 5th Symphony on record. There are some highlights that set this recording above the others. There is a point at the end of the first movement in which the music builds up to one of the final displays of the theme (timestamp 7:27 on this recording), and I assure you the crescendo Chorzempa does is the best of any recorded.
