One of the world's top wildlife photographers, Cyril Ruoso, is partnered up with a scientific journalist for an adventurous journey through three of the most extreme ecosystems on our planet, the impenetrable rainforest of the Amazon, the sky scraping glaciers of the Andes, and the desert plains of the Pacific Coast of Peru. During their search for rare and uncommon species, they meet with scientists and discover what links all three ecosystems together. Finally, they understand the need to preserve them when climate change and human activity are threatening their very existence.

There are three Perus: its great rainforest, the Andes foothills and the pacific coastal deserts. Across two hours, we explores all these diverse habitats. Peru is a land of dramatic contrasts. Although rainforests cover more than half of this country, to the west are very different ecosystems in the shadow of the Great Andes Mountain range.

In south-east Peru there is a region called Madre De Dios, a vast tropical rainforest. But although the landscape and wildlife here are breath-taking, it's also a battlefield.

Toby and Liz live with their aunt and uncle in bucolic happiness, and one day a Cambodian orphan adopted by the aunt and uncle joins the family. Han has a dream of returning home. So when the youngsters come across the eccentric King of Peru and his magic locomotive, Han gets the idea of jumping on board and riding it back to Cambodia.

Youngster Toby (Jonathan Starr) and his sister, Liz (Anick), live with their aunt and uncle, who take in Cambodian orphan Hoang (Ky Huot Uk) while he awaits placement with a foster family. The three kids become fast friends, and, as they explore a nearby wood, they encounter a retired engineer (Mickey Rooney) living in an abandoned freight car. Playing off Toby's already active fantasy life, the kids and the engineer use the train car to make an imaginary journey to Cambodia.
