Arabian Affair is a one-off disco album by The Abdul Hassan Orchestra, lead by Dutch keyboardist Hans van Eijck, known for his work with After Tea and Tee-Set. While this orchestra was said to have featured Arab musicians and a belly dancer, they were anonymous musicians whose identities were unknown but they did have a disco hit, the title track. This was remastered and reissued in 1994 on Mercury/Phonogram.

Morocco's leading young Gnawa musician plays ancient African music of healing and trance, joined by world class jazz and new music improvisers. This is world fusion's true sound. A young, hip Gnawa sintir player here combines his expertise with a multi-national percussionist, a European ney player, and veteran free jazzer Don Cherry's pocket trumpet to create a soundscape that one cannot escape from. All this is done in New York City. The ney work here is perhaps the greatest contribution. The light tones wrap around all other features of the music when Richard Horowitz is playing to envelope the listener.

Although he had initially declined the commission, Delius was persuaded to write the incidental music for Hassan by the actor and director Basil Dean, in July 1920, for performances he was planning for His Majesty’s Theatre, London, the following year. Much of the music was drafted within a few weeks, and the score would eventually prove one of the greatest successes of Delius’s career.
