Barry Cleveland's guitar playing combines psychedelic, ambient, progressive, funk, and various "world" music influences with unusual sounds created using unorthodox playing techniques and electronic processing. Volcano is an explosive mixture of African and Afro-Haitian rhythms and progressive, jazz, ambient, and world music elements, featuring Michael Manring (bass), Michael Pluznick (percussion), Norbert Stachel (winds/reeds/EWI), Michael Masley (cymbalom/original instruments), and other extraordinary artists.
Jazz fusion from a man who has performed live and/or on recordings with jazz guitar legend Pat Martino, Dave Fiuczynski, Allan Holdsworth, Andreas Oberg, Scott McGill, David Torn, and more.
Excellent addition to any Fusion music collection.
Depending on the mood you’re in, this compilation album will make you dream, smile, or cry a nostalgic tear. It is a typical Windham Hill sampler: wistful, joyful, lush, and lovely.
Hailing from Finland is Paidarion, one of the more unique acts on the modern progressive rock scene. Their sound consists of various styles of prog rock, as well as a liberal dosing of jazz, funk, pop, and a host of other genres. Behind the Curtains is their second full-length album, and in spite of its diversity and complex nature, it manages to remain surprisingly accessible and user-friendly. Paidarion have crafted a pretty enjoyable record this time around, and anyone who enjoys the more eclectic side of modern art rock should be sure to give this a listen.
