Following the success of the deluxe editions Ultravox’s Vienna and Rage In Eden albums, on 7 July Chrysalis Records will release a Deluxe Edition box set of Quartet, the band’s third album with Midge Ure. After working with producer Conny Plank on Vienna and Rage, Ultravox decided to shake things up and challenge themselves for their next album, enlisting the services of legendary producer George Martin.

While there was certainly little to complain about on the original issue of the soundtrack for Standing in the Shadows of Motown, for those who truly sought the magic of the Funk Brothers, this deluxe edition is what they longed for all along. This two-disc collection contains the soundtrack of the Allan Slutsky/Harry Weinger film – plus three bonus tracks – from that historic night at the Royal Oak Music Theater just outside of Detroit. It pairs what was left of the original Motown session gang and their heirs with a host of vocalists, including Joan Osborne, Chaka Khan, Bootsy Collins, Montell Jordan, Me'Shell NdegéOcello, Ben Harper, and Gerald LeVert interpreting the classics. The extra soundtrack cuts feature John Lee Hooker, Jackie Wilson, and Dennis Coffey with the Detroit Guitar Band. But on disc two, the entire grail becomes attainable. Here are 15 musical tracks, the original instrumental sides from "the Snakepit" of the Motown studios, with little or no vocal accompaniment, remixed from the ground up. The producers broke down and mapped out each verse, bridge, chorus, and vamp on paper first. Phone calls were made to the living members and then each tune was knotted together from the recorded evidence, using the input of the Funks and the added guitars of Dennis Coffey and Wah Wah Watson.

Disney's 1997 and 2006 reissues of the Mary Poppins soundtrack augmented the classic original release with a handful of demos and interviews, which is enough bonus material to attract collectors, but not enough to overshadow the wonderful qualities of the music. Mary Poppins contained some of the best-known (and best-loved) songs from any Disney film, including "Chim-Chimeree," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "A Spoonful of Sugar," and "Let's Go Fly a Kite." The music has lost none of its charm over the years, and it stands as some of the finest music from a movie musical in the last half of the 20th century.

With all the recordings making their debut in CD, this compilation is every ska fan's dream. Featured on this 3-CD set are some of the giabts of the age, including instrumentalists, Tommy McCook, Don Drummond and Baba Brooks, top vocal groups, the Maytals, the Techniques and the Clarendonians, and popular vocalists, Stranger Cole, Joe White and Freddie McKay. 50 rare Ska tracks in all from Trojan, packaged in cardboard sleeves and housed in a slimline box. 2005.

Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn star as a feuding movie star and novelist, (with Bruce Willis caught in the middle as a plastic surgeon), as a miracle potion offering eternal youth goes off the rails: it continues to work even after death, allowing for ghoulish and groundbreaking visual effects as the characters try to maintain appearances despite their bodies being hopelessly mutilated.

WAITING FOR COLUMBUS: SUPER DELUXE EDITION is an 8-CD boxed set that includes a newly remastered version of the original double album on CD and three unreleased concerts. It includes unreleased live versions of songs that appeared on the original (“Rocket In My Pocket” and “Spanish Moon”), along with several that didn’t, like “Cold, Cold, Cold,” “Rock And Roll Doctor,” “Skin It Back” and a cover of Allen Toussaint’s “On Your Way Down.”

Opus Dei, the band’s first album for Mute, was mixed by Rico Conning (Wire, Pere Ubu, Swans, William Orbit) and the band’s classic Laibachian interpretations of Opus’ ‘Live Is Life’ (here presented in English as ‘Opus Dei’ and in German as ‘Leben heisst Leben’) and Queen’s ‘One Vision’ (reworked as ‘Geburt Einer Nation’) soon saw them emerge from the shadows as they garnered support from the likes of MTV and ITV’s The Chart Show. This mainstream spotlight, coupled with memorable features in the music press, opened up opportunities for the Slovenian collective that included their first world tour. Performances from the tour from London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, San Francisco, Berlin, Paris and “somewhere in Europe” make up the second CD of the expanded remastered edition.

Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1984 album from the tribal Psychobilly Blues band fronted by Jeffrey Lee Pierce, including a bonus live CD. The Las Vegas Story was possibly the most complete and unrushed Gun Club LP. Produced by Jeff Eyrich, this LP saw the band experiment more with covering show tunes like Gershwin's 'My Man's Gone Now' and a killer take on Pharaoh Sanders' 'The Creator Has A Master Plan'. Yet another raved about LP in the press, The Las Vegas Story was the icing on the cake in the Gun Clubs early carrier.
