Stockholm Marathon sees the Swedish-Hungarian producer, who was born in the Swedish capital, "reflecting a lot on this beautiful, boring city I never quite manage to move away from," he says, after moving back in September of 2018. Kovács credits his "dearest Stockholm people" for making the album his most collaborative and most personal release. That list includes jazz musician Niclas Skagstedt, Matt Karmil, Rebecca & Fiona, and Malin Gabriella Nordin, who did the artwork. The album is his second full-length, following 2016's The Bells, also released on Studio Barnhus.
Recorded in the legendary EastWest studios, Moby created this album in Studio 3 where Pet Sounds was recorded, using the same board that was used in the making of Ziggy Stardust and the same piano that Sinatra used to record some of his most notable hits. Keeping with Moby’s history of donating to charity (in 2018, he started selling off his records and collection of synthesizers and drum machines, donating the proceeds to charity), he is using this album as a sounding board to bring attention to a long list of charities dedicated to preserving our planet and all its inhabitants.
Electronica meets orchestral in a new album of house, techno and contemporary classical remixes: Reprise Remixes reimagines tracks of Moby’s hit album and Deutsche Grammophon debut Reprise (released May 2021). Featuring artists such as Bambounou, Planningtorock, Topic, Peter Gregson, Christian Löffler as well as Moby himself.
Last Night (2008) was Moby’s triumphant return to club music after dabbling in guitar-driven rock and moody instrumentals. The album channeled the decadent spirit of New York’s proto-house and garage, and represented something of a return to Moby’s pre-rave roots as an active participant in the city’s club scene. Last Night Remixed brings together electronica’s finest producers for brand new remixes of songs off Last Night. Featuring energetic mixes from upstarts such as Holy Ghost! and veteran producers General Midi, Remixed is a lively excursion through cutting edge dance with a nostalgic heart.
Recorded during the Hotel tour in 2005, the DVD features classic Moby tracks such as Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?, We Are All Made of Stars, Natural Blues, Go, Porcelain and Lift Me Up as well as a cover of Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side. Included on the DVD are the videos for Lift Me Up, Beautiful, Raining Again, Spiders and Dream About Me plus TWO bonus films, unavailable elsewhere. Little Movie #1 is a jaunt around the world, filmed by Moby with 'Dream About Me' as the soundtrack, and shows a glimpse of life on the road while Mr Fish is a humorous puppet film starring Mr. Fish. The DVD comes backed with an exclusive remix CD featuring tracks from the latest album Hotel remixed by, amongst others, Mylo, Tiga, Steve Angello, Booka Shade and Axwell…
As MP3s and the constant rise of the DVD bring into question how relevant traditional albums are, Moby digitizes his loose ends and uses new formats to provide more than anyone can possibly ingest in one sitting. The CD in this set features Moby's leftovers from the 18 album, and they are pretty much what you would expect with the quality notched up a little. A bit less polished than his album tracks, they'll generally remind you of some other Moby tunes, only in demo form. "Soul to Love" sounds just like a more sedate "Go" and "String Electro" sounds like most of Play, only they're both pleasantly naïve and much less ambitious…
