Morbid Angel

Formative genetic material of death metal, this band formed in 1984 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and recorded its first album "Abominations Of Desolation" in 1986 (albeit not released until 1991), being inspired by Slayer but eventually moving on to more progressive works with the genre-definitive "Blessed Are the Sick" in 1991. Progressive, rhythmic, complex and evil death metal with lyrics well-crafted from Sumerian and Lovecraftian domains…

Drawing on material from their first four albums, Morbid Angel offered up an extremely well executed live album with "Entangled in Chaos". Running just under forty minutes, fans of the band won't find themselves bored in the least with the eleven tracks offered here…

Guitarist Erik Rutan joins the fold on Morbid Angel's Domination and contributes several of his own compositions. The group's sound is better than ever and perhaps a bit more groove-oriented, but this is mostly standard Morbid Angel, with the typical problems: the bass drums are played too fast to be recorded properly and end up sounding like a fast clicking underneath the songs…

Death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL will release their new album, "Kingdoms Disdained", on December 1 via UDR Music. Recorded at Mana Recording in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer — and former MORBID ANGEL guitarist — Erik Rutan, the LP marks the band's first release with drummer Scott Fuller (ANNIHILATED, ex-ABYSMAL DAWN) who joined MORBID ANGEL last year following the departure of Tim Yeung. It is also be MORBID ANGEL's first album to feature bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker since 2003's "Heretic".

From a novel by author Elizabeth Taylor comes the inspiration for Angel, the second English-language film by French director Francois Ozon. In many ways a throwback to the grand romances of Hollywood's Golden Age, Angel also features a wider range of sensibilities that would seem to attract attention from modern arthouse crowds. The story follows the life of young author Angel Deverell, whose force of will leads the audience on a journey from the imaginative aspirations of her youth all the way through her eventual death. A fierce personality for Angel and the story's willingness to toss in a tart now and then provide the film with spicy interest. Angel marks the fifth collaboration (since 2003) between Ozon and young French composer Philippe Rombi, who has shown the talent and promise of an international career that is yet unrealized. Without a doubt, Angel is the biggest spectacle to come out of Rombi's career as of yet, contributing to a belief that he very well could be an extension of (or replacement for) the late master of French romanticism, Georges Delerue. In many ways, Angel will be an absolute delight for fans of Delerue, mostly due to Rombi's unashamed, lyrical devotion to his three themes for the film.
