Motion Hearing

Richard Stephen Robbins (1940-2012) was an American-born composer, best known for his motion picture scores for the Merchant Ivory films. Although mostly influenced by the minimalist compositions of Philip Glass, Robbins was capable of producing the sumptuous, colourfully orchestrated, symphonic music, just the right side of sentimentality, for Maurice (1987), which won the best score at the Venice film festival. It remained Robbins's own favourite among his scores.

Superbly creepy, genuinely chilling horror score by Christopher Young. The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a 2005 American supernatural horror trial film directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Laura Linney and Tom Wilkinson. The film is loosely based on the story of Anneliese Michel and follows a self-proclaimed agnostic (Linney) who acts as defense counsel representing a parish priest (Wilkinson), accused by the state of negligent homicide after he performed an exorcism.

Hanover Street is a 1979 Anglo-American wartime romantic film, written and directed by Peter Hyams, and starring Harrison Ford, Lesley-Anne Down and Christopher Plummer. The original score composed by John Barry.

Angel Heart is a 1987 American neo-noir psychological horror film, and an adaptation of William Hjortsberg's 1978 novel Falling Angel. Written and directed by Alan Parker, the film stars Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet. The story follows Harry Angel (Rourke), a New York City private investigator hired to solve the disappearance of a man known as Johnny Favorite. Angel's investigation takes him to New Orleans, where he becomes embroiled in a series of brutal murders. The film score for Angel Heart was produced and composed by South African composer Trevor Jones, with saxophone solos by British jazz musician Courtney Pine.

Prefab rock’n’roll revivalism never hurt anyone. Especially not Temples, a British three-piece who have built their career crate-digging for the trippiest and most aggressively overstuffed ’70s psych-rock. Their third album, Hot Motion, is crafted more or less in the same vein as their previous two. A showing of studied musicianship and strong arrangements, Hot Motion is fuzzy to the touch and easy enough to imagine hearing in the background. Unfortunately, very little lies beneath the surface.

Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the French thriller The Wolf’s Call (Le chant du loup). The album features the film’s original music composed by tomandandy (The Strangers, 47 Meters Down, The Mothman Prophecies, Sinister 2). Also included is the original track Honoring the Dead written for the movie by Marc Streitenfeld (Prometheus, American Gangster, Robin Hood) (also available as a digital single here). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. The Wolf’s Call is directed by Antonin Baudry and stars François Civil, Omar Sy, Mathieu Kassovitz and Reda Kateb. The movie is set in the near future, on board a French submarine in crisis and centers on a crew member who unwittingly participates in an operation that will lead his country to the brink of an apocalypse. The thriller will be released in French theaters next Wednesday, February 20. No word yet on a domestic release.

The Lion King like the original 1994 version features unforgettable music by an award-winning team, including Oscar and GRAMMY-winning superstar Elton John and Oscar and GRAMMY-winning lyricist Tim Rice, who’ve written an uplifting new song, “Never Too Late,” performed by John, that features an African choir and will appear in the film’s end credits and also on the Walt Disney Records original motion picture soundtrack. “Just hearing that music strikes you deeply,” Favreau said. “Even if you don’t know the film or stage show, there is a spiritual strength in it. But if you know the film, and if you grew up with this music now it can suddenly and immediately evoke the story itself, as well as all the connected memories and emotions that you have from your own past experience with ‘The Lion King,’ or from the time of your life that you were in, or your childhood, or the life events it’s connected to.

Octopussy is the soundtrack for the eponymous thirteenth James Bond film. The score was composed by John Barry, the lyrics by Tim Rice. The opening theme, "All Time High" is sung by Rita Coolidge and is one of six Bond film title songs or songs that are not named after film's title.

Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for the action drama sequel Backdraft 2. The album features the film’s original music composed and performed by Randy Edelman (The Last of the Mohicans, Dragonheart, Gettysburg, While You Were Sleeping, Kindergarten Cop). Backdraft 2 is directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego and stars Donald Sutherland and William Baldwin who their roles as Ronald Bartel and Brian McCaffrey from the 1991 original Backdraft movie, as well as Joe Anderson, Alisha Bailey and Jessamine-Bliss Bell. The Universal 1440 Entertainment production will be released on VOD, Blu-ray and DVD on May 14 by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
