The sterling performances features him as well as pianist Ignasi Terraza, drummer Esteve Pi, guitarist Josep Traver as the core ensemble. Feeling Good is well named: the feelgood vibe is strong and the love of music that reaches out from this album is pretty much guaranteed to leave listeners with a similarly good feeling. It's the second album from Joan Chamorro - bassist, saxophonist and director of Barcelona's Sant Andreu Jazz Band - and the band's star member, the teenage singer and instrumentalist Andrea Motis. Chamorro's name may come first, but it's Motis' personality that shines through most strongly on Feeling Good. Chamorro can take much of the credit for this - he's mentored Motis and other members of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band for some years, creating a band with the talent and maturity that belies the ages of its members (who are between 9 and 20 years old)…

If the little world of jazz wasn't exactly slow to pick up on the outstanding talent of Andrea Motis — the great Quincy Jones in person told us all about her in 2012 when she was 17 (he'd invited her on stage at the Barcelona Festival) — there's no question that the 2017 release of Emotional Dance, her first real album as a leader on the prestigious Impulse! label, suddenly took the career of this young Catalan singer-trumpeter into another dimension altogether.

A gifted singer and trumpeter, Spain's Andrea Motis makes emotive, romantic jazz. Born in Barcelona in 1995, Motis studied trumpet and saxophone from a young age. By the time she was 13 years old, she was singing and playing trumpet in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band under the supervision of her mentor, saxophonist Joan Chamorro. In 2010, at age 15, she made her recorded debut with the standards album Joan Chamorro Presenta Andrea Motis. More well-received albums followed, including 2012's Feeling Good and 2015's Live at Palau de la Música. In 2017, Motis made her Impulse! Records debut with ‘Emotional Dance’.

Trece años de jazz y 12 "Joan Chamorro presenta…”, en este caso a Carla Motis, que entró a formar parte de la Sant Andreu Jazz Band en el 2008, con 11 años, y que ha sido la única guitarrista que ha formado parte de la banda. A modo de Freddie Green en la bigband de Count Basie, Carla Motis, discretamente, durante todos estos años, ha dado un sonido especial a la sección rítmica. Su tiempo, cada día que pasaba, era más sólido, sus "compings” apoyaban a los solistas que iban emergiendo y ella se mantenía en un segundo plano, pero con una gran aportación rítmica y harmónica.
