Charles Mingus was one of the most innovative jazz musicians of the 20th Century, and ranks with Ives and Ellington as one of America's greatest composers. By temperament, he was a high-strung and sensitive romantic, a towering figure whose tempestuous personal life found powerfully coherent expression in the ever-shifting textures of his music. "Only When I Lose Myself" is the 1998 single by British synth pop group Depeche Mode. It was released in support of their compilation album The Singles 86>98. Two different versions of the CD5 was released, one with remixes of the song by both Subsonic and Dan The Automator, the other with remixes by both Gus Gus and DJ Shadow.
