Along with C.S.I. and Afterhours, Marlene Kuntz were one of the most important bands to emerge from the Italian underground in the '90s, and one of the leading names of the indie rock renaissance of that decade. Their mixture of angular and dissonant guitars – owing more than a little to Sonic Youth – and poetic lyrics soon became a trademark that many rock fans identified with. As the band progressively polished its sound, they reached the top notches of the Italian charts, but never lost their edge, remaining one of the most interesting acts on the local rock scene.

Slovenian collective Laibach revisit their 1987 masterpiece, Opus Dei, with brand-new interpretations by the group, along with remixes from the record’s original producer and mixer, Rico Conning. Opus Dei (translation: God’s Work) was the band’s first album for Mute, garnering acclaim and shining a worldwide spotlight on the unique Slovenian collective. This led to the album being listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (edited by Robert Dimery), where it was called “…a masterpiece of its genre.” Opus Dei Revisited presents two distinct new versions of the work, an approach in keeping with the original album, where they reimagined Opus’s ‘Live Is Life’ (as ‘Opus Dei’) and Queen’s ‘One Vision’ (‘Geburt einer Nation’), two key highlights of the album. The first disc is a reworking by Laibach themselves, initially crafted and then refined for their current Opus Dei Revisited Tour. Never a band to take an easy route to any destination, the challenge to re-evaluate, reinterpret, and rebuild the tracks was an artistic imperative. The band was so pleased with the results that they entered the studio immediately after Phase 1 of the Opus Dei Revisited Tour was completed to capture these new versions.

La-La Land Records, Paramount Pictures and Geffen Records proudly present a remastered and expanded Limited Edition 2-CD release of acclaimed composer Nino Rota’s (8 1/2, LA DOLCE VITA, THE GODFATHER) Oscar-winning original motion picture score to the 1974 masterpiece THE GODFATHER PART II starring Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Robert DeNiro, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. This deluxe release of Nino Rota’s brilliant score marks the 50th Anniversary of the classic second film in THE GODFATHER saga - arguably the greatest sequel of all time - and its iconic music, both of which have cemented themselves into our culture for eternity. Beyond the composer’s artful reprisals and interpretations of first film’s legendary waltz and love themes, the music of PART II soars further with Rota’s emotional new themes and explorations that enrich the film’s epic nature. And the Academy took note - among the film’s eleven Oscars, including Best Picture, the composer won for Best Original Score.

On September 13, Experience Hendrix L.L.C., in partnership with Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, is releasing Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, a deluxe box set offering 39 tracks (38 previously unreleased) that were recorded by the new-look Jimi Hendrix Experience (Billy Cox on bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums) at Electric Lady Studios between June and August of 1970, just before the legendary musician’s untimely death the following month. In celebration of the forthcoming release, on August 8, the City of New York will be temporarily renaming the portion of West 8th Street between 6th Street and MacDougal Street JIMI HENDRIX WAY. This is the block on which Electric Lady Studios was built and still stands. There will also be a media screening event inside the studio that night.

Cal Tjader fuses Afro-Cuban rhythms and mainstream jazz solos in his1956 album, Latin Kick. Alongside Tjader (vibraphone) the album also features Brew Moore (sax), Luis Miranda (congas), Bayardo Velarde (timbales), Manuel Duran (piano), and Carlos Duran (bass). This new edition of the album is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and presented in a Tip-On Jacket.

It's wild that the cover of Latin Kick features a saguaro-focused desert scene, implying that this would be an album filled with mariachi or other Mexican-based music.

While the Gits were a band who made a strong impression with their music during their all too brief run, it was how the group suddenly ended that would come to dominate their story. Playing a unique and passionate fusion of first-era punk, hard rock, and streetwise blues, the Gits had a sound that set them apart from their peers in Seattle in the late '80s and early '90s, when the city was hip deep in the grunge explosion.
