The Portuguese title of this Gilberto Gil release makes ambiguous references to "changes" and "dance." In fact, it is a dance-oriented album, basically dealing with electric funk grooves. It's a good album that has plenty of Brazilian percussion filling the gaps of the backbeat. More attention to melodies is dispensed in "Mulher de Coronel," in the samba "De Bob Dylan a Bob Marley" (with interesting lyrics dealing with racial problems), in the pop ballad "Cada Tempo em Seu Lugar" (also having good lyrics about the urge of helping), and the beautiful hit the pop ballad "Amarra o Teu Arado a Uma Estrela."

The bandoneon was remarkably popular as part of Argentinian culture during the 20th century and was brought into the Western mainstream through Astor Piazzolla’s ‘nuevo tango’. It was invented in Germany in around 1850, and for a while became a familiar part of musical life there. André Parfenov’s dramatic and evocative Bandoneon-Story delves into the instrument’s rich history turning it into a surprisingly varied audio journey, exploring its humble origins, expressive poetic palette and artful dance syncopations to create a cinematic historical panorama.

A blind pianist full of sensuality: Maria Theresia Paradis, born in Vienna in 1759, was a pianist, singer, composer and music teacher. Although deprived of sight from an early age, she gained a firm place in musical life and, thanks to her prominence, was acquainted with important representatives of Viennese classical music. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dedicated his Piano Concerto KV 456 to her, and Maria Theresia Paradis played Joseph Haydn's Concerto in G major several times on tour in Europe. The pianist campaigned for the education of blind girls and was instrumental in the development of Braille, which was established by Louis Braille one year after her death in 1825 and is still in use today.

Very appropriately, Valentina Naforniţă devotes half of her debut album released on Outhere to the composer who makes the highest vocal demands, with his incomparable dramatic complexity and inspired musical invention. Ever since she sang her first Papagena as a new ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera in the autumn of 2011, she has repeatedly enjoyed enormous success performing Mozart’s great female roles, which are so challenging in their diversity. The charismatic Moldovan soprano impresses with an astonishingly wide palette of expression and emotion. The second part of the CD is devoted to the Slavonic repertory.

However, as Beethoven biographer Barry Cooper suggests, the composer also sensed beyond monetary compensation the perennial power of the folk-melody and the potential ensuing benefit of his own musical association with the project, so as to create with Thomson a folksong movement for future generations.Beethoven delivered the challenging arrangements and Thomson struggled to sell them, asking Beethoven if he could simplify his arrangements. Beethoven’s wonderfully dusty response was “I am not accustomed to retouching my compositions: I have never done so, certain of the truth that any partial change alters the character of the composition. I am sorry that you are the loser, but you cannot blame me, since it was up to you to make me better acquainted with the taste of your country and the little facility of your performers.”

Amazon.comLike the film itself, the soundtrack to Miami Vice is no 1980s retro-ride. Sure, it opens with "In the Air Tonight," but it's a cover by nü metal band Nonpoint taken from their 2004 album Recoil. Director Michael Mann's slick revisionist aesthetics are confirmed on two types of tracks. First, there are the dancefloor-friendly ones like "One of These Mornings" (a collaboration between Moby and Patti Labelle) and a house remix of Nina Simone’s "Sinnerman" by Felix da Housecat. Then there are the more atmospheric offerings, such as a couple instrumentals by Scottish band Mogwai and the last four tracks, that suggest the kind of steel-blue ambiance Mann is so good at creating (especially John Murphy's "Mercado Nueva" and Klaus Badelt & Mark Batson's "A-500"). Odder is the lack of local flavor: there's only a pair of Latin-flavored tracks, Arranca and Emilio Estefan, for instance. Not to mention that if ever there was a soundtrack that should have included at least one Miami bass song, it's this one. As for those who still associate Miami Vice with pastel colors and the 1980s, they're better off checking out the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City–a video game that's actually more faithful to the spirit of the TV series than the movie that bears its name. In his compositions, Kunets combines elements of classical music, jazz and pop music. The melody and the romantic character of his symphonic works reflect the essence of the composer. My music has a very lyrical character; I try to convey my view of life and my feelings. It is, so to speak, the result of my philosophical reflections, little stories about our existence surrounded by nature, which in turn is closely connected with our emotional being. For Reflection, Yury Kunets once again collaborated with arranger and conductor Lee Holdrige (Emmy & Grammy award-winning composer and orchestrator) and recording producer Christopher Alder (10x time Grammy award-winning record producer).
