On November 22, 1981, in the middle of a huge American tour, the Rolling Stones arrived in Chicago for a three-night run at the Rosemont Horizon. On their night off, several of the Stones hit Buddy Guy's club, the Checkerboard Lounge, to see Muddy Waters and his band (which featured guitarist John Primer and harpist George "Mojo" Buford at the time)…

"The Best of Muddy Waters" was the first LP by the blues giant, compiled from his greatest singles released during the late 1940s and early 1950s. While Muddy is associated with Chicago-style blues and all of these tracks were recorded in Chicago, one thing that is interesting about the album is that his Delta roots are still very apparent. True, his guitar is amplified and he plays with a backing band, but the music maintains a very rural feel to it. This provides great contrast not only with his contemporaries but also with the later Muddy Waters. Only a handful of tracks sound more urban, with greater intensity in both the vocals and the instrumental accompaniment.

2015 live release from the blues guitarist, a tribute to blues legends Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf… As Joe Bonamassa approaches his 26th year as a professional musician, he continues to blaze a remarkably versatile artistic trail, and amass an authentic, innovative and soulful body of work. Bonamassa's career began onstage opening for B.B. King in 1989, when he was only 12 years old. Today, he is hailed worldwide as one of the greatest guitar players of his generation, and is an ever-evolving singer-songwriter who has released 15 solo albums in the last 13 years, all on his own label. There's a case to be made that Joe Bonamassa, like another star who shared the same initials, is the hardest working man in show business.

Less a "best of" than an early full album that brings together some of Muddy Waters' earliest recordings for Chess - a great collection of early singles recorded in Chicago between 1950 and 1954! The work's relatively spare and rootsy overall - a great example of Chicago blues in its formative years, with some traces of a more southern style still in the mix.

Muddy Waters started out playing acoustic blues in the Delta, and it shows on this return to his roots, designed to appeal to the mid-1960s surge of interest in folk music. This particular CD reissue includes five bonus tracks, among which are "The Same Thing" and "Short Dress Woman". All of the other reasons to hear this one remain – Waters's strong, confident voice, the relaxed smoothness of the material, and the surprisingly clean recording, made even cleaner by the digital remastering.

This Muddy Waters compilation from England is comprised of 20 songs,17 of them dating between 1950 and 1958 and the other three from 1968 and 1972, arranged in no particular order. The selection opens with "Got My Mojo Working" in its original studio version and covers most of the obvious bases, including many of Muddy's best-known originals and his classic renditions of Willie Dixon compositions, but somehow missing out on "I Can't Be Satisfied" and "Rollin' and Tumblin'" in favor of "Garbage Man" from 1972 (a better case can be made for "Can't Get No Grindin'"). It's difficult to say what makes this collection "essential" - one supposes that the producers wanted to emphasize the fact that Muddy was still making important music that late, but given that the notes focus on songs that were later staples of the British Invasion, the choices are odd…

Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield, Issaquena County, Mississippi, April 4, 1913 - Westmont, Illinois, April 30, 1983) was an American blues musician and is generally considered “the father of chicago blues.” His career spanned over thirty years and he produced what are considered to be some of the finest blues songs ever, such as Hoochie Coochie Man, Mannish Boy and Got My Mojo Working. Muddy Waters is generally considered one of the most influential bluesmen of all time. His fondness for playing in mud earned him the nickname “Muddy” at an early age. He later changed it to “Muddy Water” and finally “Muddy Waters”.
