Album released in Germany performed by Spanish classical guitarist Narciso Yepes (Murcia, 1927-1997), the performer with the 10-string guitar. The album's thematic repertoire offers fragmentary creations corresponding to the also great Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega. As stated Yepes, Tárrega used to transcribe musical scores of different versions, with different levels of difficulty to suit the degree of interpretive skill of guitar students. Yepes interprets versions in such cases more complex and difficult to interpret these scores. Such is the case of pieces like the 'Estudio en forma de Minueto', the 'Cartagenera' -only recorded version of this work to date- or 'Sueño'.

The Spanish guitarist Narciso Yepes was the creator of the ten-string guitar, the only true concert guitar with chromatic resonance, similar to the piano with its sustain pedal. He was the first performer to record Bach's complete works for lute, of which two parts are included here. The repertoire of this album offers a varied assortment of selected topics of great Spanish composers alongside other great creations of world renowned composers.

This programme dedicated to Joaquín Rodrigo includes a pair of his landmark works, recorded in the late 1970s by Spanish 10-string guitarist Narciso Yepes working with two different orchestras led by García Navarro. The Fantasía is a 1978 performance from the English Chamber Orchestra while the Concierto de Aranjuez is from a 1979 recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Both orchestras bring out the best in Rodrigo’s music, with its astounding ability to evoke feelings and visualizations of rural Spain and its romantic past.

Joaquín Rodrigo was one of the most honored of twentieth century Spanish composers. Several of his compositions, in particular the Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra, have attained worldwide fame. Blind from the age of three due to diphtheria, Rodrigo undertook early musical studies under Francisco Antich in Valencia (1920-1923) and Paul Dukas at the École Normale de Musique in Paris (1927-1932). While in Paris, Rodrigo befriended many of the great composers of the time, and received particular encouragement from his fellow Spaniard Manuel de Falla.

A unique film deserves a unique score. The famous song from “The Longest Day” was written and composed by Paul Anka. The rest of the score was composed, arranged, and orchestrated by Maurice Jarre. It was the minimum needed for this super production, which is considered as one of the most brilliant tributes to the freedom soldiers! In addition to “The Longest Day”’s score are featured the World War II cinema classics’ soundtracks: Denys de la Patellière’s “Un Taxi Pour Tobrouk” composed by Georges Garvarentz, René Clément’s “Is Paris Burning?” composed by Maurice Jarre, René Clément’s “La Bataille du Rail” composed by Yves Baudrier, René Clément’s “Mr. Orchid composed by René Cloërec, and René Clément’s “Forbidden Games” composed by Narciso Yepes.
