The state of Texas had a burgeoning AOR underground throughout the 1980's, perhaps the most famous artist being multi-instrumentalist Michael Morales whose first album spawned several US hit singles. Not as well known, but equally deserving of attention are Nightwork who released their eponymous album in 1986. Perfect AOR!! This is really one of the best AOR records from the 1980s!

Rocksteady is a 2004 CD by Monty Alexander and Ernest Ranglin. It is a tribute album to their Jamaican roots, with jazz-flavored renditions of classic ska and reggae songs. This was released by Telarc.

On this, their umpteenth album collaboration since the scatologically titled 1974 LP Rass!, Monty Alexander and Ernest Ranglin fill their own good air with some gems from their country’s late ’60s to late ’70s pop-music canon. Recorded live in the studio with a minimum of bells and whistles, Rocksteady is emblematic of the pioneer spirit that propelled Jamaican recordings into the international spotlight three decades ago.
