2016 marks 400 years since the death of Shakespeare and to commemorate, Decca is pleased to offer this compilation of music and spoken word. The first half includes musical works inspired by works of the bard. The second half is devoted to a selection of Shakespeare's most famous speeches from his plays and sonnets in recordings by such acclaimed actors as Vanessa Redgrave, Dame Peggy Ashcroft, Sir John Gielgud, Christopher Plummer and many more.

Grammy Award-winners Ian Bostridge and Sir Antonio Pappano have been working together on the stage and in the recording studio for over 20 years. Now they embark on a project marking the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare with a new album out in September. Shakespeare Songs celebrates the four centuries of music and performance that his plays and sonnets have inspired.
