NOW Music is proud to present the next instalment in our ongoing ‘Yearbook’ series, NOW – Yearbook 1989; tracks from a magical year in Pop!

NOW That’s What I Call Music’s Yearbook series continues with 1990, only the second time they’ve dipped their toe into the decade we like to call “the 1990s”. There’s loads of great songs and artists on this compilation, including George Michael, Elton John, Roxette, New Order, The KLF, The Beautiful South, Pet Shop Boys, Sting, Duran Duran, Kylie, Whitney, er, Appleby… and that’s just CD 1! The second disc is home to a few memorable collaborations, namely DNA & Suzanne Vega, Adamski & Seal and there’s definitely a ‘dance’ vibe with contributions from Deee-Lite, Soul II Soul, Adventures Of Stevie V, SNAP! before it goes a bit ‘indie’ towards the end with The Charlatans, The Stone Roses, The Cure and Primal Scream, etc.

NOW was recently proud to announce the ‘Yearbook’ for 1985, as we move forward to the second half of the 1980s, and we were delighted with the response to the 1979 edition back in September. However, we haven’t quite finished with those golden pop years 1980 – 1984.

NOW Music will next month head back to the 1970s to issue Yearbook ’76 as a 4CD set and 3LP coloured vinyl package. Those big tracks are only half the story, however, as you’ll also find songs Barry White, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Demis Roussos, Brotherhood of Man, Showaddywaddy, Hot Chocolate, The Wurzels, Bay City Rollers, Eric Carmen, The Walker Brothers, Johnny Mathis, Neil Diamond, Joan Armatrading, Diana Ross, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Marvin Gaye and many more.

The NOW Yearbook series continues next month with 4CD and 3LP vinyl sets focussed on 1998 This set includes hits from artists like George Michael, R.E.M., Radiohead, Oasis, Run Dmc, Tori Amos and Sheryl Crow but is dominated by pop acts of the era including Robbie Williams, Five, Honeyz, Boyzone, Aqua, Steps and B*Witched. There’s also a reasonable selection of dance and club hits from the likes of Fatboy Slim, Sash feat. Tina Cousins, Vengaboys, Dario G, etc.

CD1 opens with a superstar double and a trio of #1s: George Michael and Elton John’s live duet Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me. Chesney Hawkes defining debut ‘The One And Only’ and ‘The Shoop Shoop Song’ from Cher. CD2 showcases the amazing talent enjoying chart smashes in the early ‘90s… One of The KLF’s run of superb gems ‘3AM Eternal’ kicks things off, by Seal’s solo version of ‘Killer’. CD3 opens with truly timeless anthem The Waterboys’ ‘The Whole Of The Moon’ re-released six years after its’ original to become huge hit. Deacon Blue with Twist And Shout leads into The Railway Childrens biggest hit Every Beat Of The Heart. CD4 opens with a stellar run of pure pop gold: Pet Shop Boys open with their ingenious mash-up Where The Streets Have No Name making their second appearance on this Yearbook.

NOW Music continue with their long-running Yearbook series with one that focuses on the year 1997. Available in the usual formats of 4CD deluxe hardcover book 78 tracks, 4CD standard and 3LP coloured vinyl 43 tracks, this new volume has big names mixing it with popular artists of the era.

1980 was a huge year in pop music, and we have already included a fabulous selection of tracks on the vinyl versions of the 1980 Yearbook, the 80-84 Final Chapter, and the Vinyl Extra 5-LP box-set as part of our appreciation of the year. Those tracks were generally the bigger hits of the year, with their chart achievement a factor in their inclusion. However, that’s not the whole singles story of the year, and our celebration of 1980 wouldn’t be complete without shining a light on some of the years’ singles that have been compiled much less frequently over the years… 1981 was a seismic year in pop music, with a huge number of new artists making unforgettable chart debuts.

Some were representative of massive selling albums, some were big hits in the U.S. and not in the U.K. all part of wonderful pop story of 1980.

CD1 kicks off with a run of Synth-Pop gems from established artists Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Blancmange, Gary Numan and Talk Talk alongside some newer bands, The Lotus Eaters, Freur and After The Fire… Japan released a live instrumental, and Yello, Divine, Rockers Revenge and Freeez presented fantastic club tracks. The second disc opens with a stunning collection of Indiesingles from Bauhaus, Marc And The Mambas, The Stranglers and The Glove – featuring members of both The Cure and Siouxsie And The Banshees! CD3 features some huge and long-established superstars Billy Joel with the stunning opener Goodnight Saigon, Bonnie Tyler, Lionel Richie, Mike Oldfield, The Kinks, Olivia Newton-John and U.S. hit for Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton with a cover of Bob Seger’s ‘We’ve Got Tonite’.
