The feeling seems to be mutual as Dávid tells us: “Third time is said to be the charm. It feels so weird trying to find the best words for the third time. I could search for my first announcement from 2019 or the one for the Redux edition in 2020. So many things have and have not happened since Roadburn got cancelled for the first time. Being so blessed that I got invited again, I just hope in April we all can make it there for real.”

This is the long awaited follow-up to The Devil And The Almighty Blues' highly acclaimed self-titled debut album, and these guys have not gone astray! The album 'II' gives a peep through the pinhole at a band's honest, dark and pure expression, drawing influences from the original delta blues via the electrical revolution in the late sixties/ early seventies, to the more contemporary desert scene.

Be it the folk of the Appalachians, the tales of Hungarian and Transylvanian traditionals, singer-songwriter Dávid Makó, who redefined himself as THE DEVIL'S TRADE a few years ago, fuses his past of metal and his roots laying deep in the folk songs of his immediate surroundings. Very much like the Iron Peak, a mountaintop both metaphorical and literal is calling for Makó, he is calling for you to share his rituals of loves and hopes lost and found along the pilgrimage of his. It is after all, the journey itself that matters the most, and how you adapt.

It appears that, with Linn's The Devil's Trill, the former Palladian Ensemble shortened its name to just Palladians. With the departure of longtime recorder soloist Pamela Thorby, the quartet was suddenly re-designated a trio, but The Devil's Trill finds it a quartet once again with the addition of harpsichordist Silas Standage. The new name, according to the group, is designed "[to allow] more artistic freedom for players to come and go as required," and that's certainly fair, although one might wonder what effect this might have on their usual, seamless ensemble blend. To judge from The Devil's Trill, not much, so far. The core group of Rodolfo Richter, Susanne Heinrich, and William Carter hold together like glue, and the addition of Standage discreetly adds a level of color to what was already well put in place with the Palladian Ensemble of old.

When I first looked at the cover for Antry’s new album, I saw the grizzled visage of Steve Antry looking back at me with the defiant look of an old-time preacher getting ready to wrestle the devil to the ground. That’s appropriate for an album called, Devil Don’t Care, that mixes some beautiful gospel and country flavors in with some very cool blues rock. Atry has assembled a great group of musicians for his latest effort, including himself on vocals and electric guitar along with Greg Morrow on drums; Michael Rhodes on bass; Rob McNelley, Pat Buchanan, and Brent Mason on electric guitar; Dan Dugmore and Danny Rader on acoustic guitar; Dugmore also plays lap steel guitar; David Smith and Mike Rojas on piano, B3, and keys; Buchanan on harp; and Eric Darkken and Peter Carson on percussion.
