The original LISP programming system was implemented at M.1.T.l based upon a paper by John McCarthy, "~ecursive Functions of Symbolic Expressions and Their Computation by Machine," which was published in Communications of the ACM, April 1960. Since then, numerous other LISP systems have been implemented on a variety of computers.

Due to its relative simplicity and historical integration within the AutoCAD environment, LISP is a natural first programming language for CAD managers.
