A group with variable geometry (and orientation), follower of a spirited and offbeat pop, Catastrophe floats like a whimsical UFO in the French musical landscape. Fond of unusual projects, he resurfaces with GONG !, a musical about coffee, smartphones and the passage of time, mixing theater, music and dance in a whole as striking as it is delightful.

Paul Van Haver, better known as Stromae (verlan syllabic inversion of Maestro), is a talented Belgian singer and songwriter, who made a phenomenal worldwide success in 2010, with his hit "Alors on danse" (included in his first album "Cheese"), that quickly has reached no 1 position in the charts of 12 European countries. This 2nd album contains the top hit "Formidable", a smash-hit already. He has a very personal hip-hop style and a captivating and expressive voice that reminds of older french chanson legends. The belgian singer has a powerful appeal because he is emerging as a chronicler of the existential crisis facing a generation of young Europeans. In this album you will find even a hip-hop version of Bizet's Carmen. Enjoy.

THE MUSIC OF ISLAM - Volume I

Volume One: Al-Qahirah, Classical Music of Cairo

This grand collection is a beautiful example of the rich and varied sounds from across the globe. First in a series of Fifteen Volumes (or Seventeen Dics)

THE PROJECT:
Ten years in the making, The Music of Islam series recorded in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Yemen, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran and Qatar represents the most comprehensive sound documentation available to Westerners today, of a world religion dating back to 1/622. Although governed by strict rules for fourteen centuries, contact with other cultures has radically affected Islamic music throughout history. As the world enters the XV/21st century the timing of this collection serves an even larger purpose, documenting the traditions that have survived and will continue to survive for centuries to come. Today, one fifth of the world's population, one billion people, are Muslims, occupying a large territory stretching from the Atlantic shore of north and west Africa, through west, central, and south Asia to island southeast Asia, and attracting an increasing following in India, western Europe, north America, east Asia, and southern Africa.

This is a global presence which cannot be ignored.

The musicians featured in this volume are regarded as some of the most outstanding and sought-after studio musicians in all of Egypt. They play traditional Arabic instruments and are masters of classical, folk and popular music. The ensemble includes Mamdouh El Gbaly playing 'ud (lute), Mostafa Abd El Khalek playing the qanun (zither), Mohammed Foda playing the nay (flute), Khaled Gomaa playing tabalah (goblet drum), Ibrahim Gomaa playing duff (frame-drum), and Hesham El Araby playing riqq (tambourine with small cymbals).

The two most accessible studio LPs by the Brothers Four slot together perfectly, and are ideal artifacts of their era: upbeat and enjoyable (and totally inauthentic) presentations of folk songs and folk-type songs. The debut album is weighted just a bit toward novelty-type tunes - or at least folk material done in the style of novelty tunes - such as "The Zulu Warrior" and "Sama Kama Wacky Brown," and calypso. B.M.O.C.'s 12 songs are more diverse and sung with greater subtlety and sophistication, and constitute the group's best work on album. The range of material on this disc (which includes the hits "Greenfields" and "The Green Leaves of Summer") makes this an excellent alternative to either the best-of or the greatest hits collection released on the group.
