This album was the group's magnum opus in the perception of many onlookers and fans, and it still plays well, though its flaws are more evident than they were at the time. The "Song of Scheherazade," really a suite for the group supported by the London Symphony Orchestra and a chorus, started with guitarist-composer Michael Dunford, who had a personal fascination with the medieval literary work Tales of 1,001 Arabian Nights, and was realized by Dunford and his composing partner Betty Thatcher, with bassist Jon Camp and pianist John Tout. The piece, really nine sections assembled together, was one of the more ambitious works to come out of the progressive rock boom - it fits together nicely and does have some gorgeous passages and many lyrical, powerful sections, although it also seems slightly repetitive, overstaying its welcome somewhat…

Portuguese, violinist and violetist with parallel careers in erudite and experimental improvised music, besides dedications to fado and tango, Maria da Rocha has in “Beet Root & Other Stories” her first solo album. Successor of the duo recorded with Maria W. Horn, “Pink”, this new title presents one of several versions already established for the work-in-progress “Beet Root”, after the first approaches inspired in “Circe”, by Julio Cortázar, in which the author’s compositions, mainly graphic scores painted with china ink and collages with vegetal paper, were interleaved with others of the Baroque period of composers like Bach, Biber, Uccelini and Corelli.

Well what can I say regarding such a remarkable step of Jon Anderson brilliant career?!!..As in the recent times his illness brought about a certain strength in his composition, thanks to his strong reaction to his unlucky fate (also in his recent 2011 American Tour, where his performance on stage has been improving all his successful concerts in America and Mexico for a few months), now I like to point out that He's been able to put a great quality into the present new composition, by considering this "Survival…" in its essence.

Manhattan Suite is a musical composition dedicated to New York and to the historical, social and architectural facets of its most famous neighbourhood. This work was written in 2008 after the reading of Delirious New York, an essay by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas analyzing the city, mostly its architecture and structure, from its foundation until modern times. Manhattan is not only history but also frenzy, movement, tradition and culture. Everything there has a story to tell and Manhattan Suite tries to translate these stories into music.

Actor, broadcaster and comedian Alexander Armstrong stars as narrator in this irresistible album of world premiere recordings, which revels in the magical colours of childhood memories. Not Now, Bernard is an all-time classic story by David McKee, set to music by Bernard Hughes (b.1974) with melodic charm and a subversive sense of fun. Alexander Armstrong recounts it along with companion piece Isabel's Noisy Tummy as well as Hughes's The Knight Who Took All Day, which challenges chivalric convention with its subversive story of female empowerment. Conductor Tom Hammond and members of the Orchestra of the Swan shape compelling interpretations, enriched by Armstrongs gleeful narration. They also raise a riot of sound in Malcolm Arnolds Toy Symphony (1957), complete with quail cuckoo, guards whistle and gloriously irritating toy trumpets. The albums mood darkens in John Irelands haunting melodrama Annabel Lee, a spine-tingling setting of Edgar Allan Poes final poem presented here in Bernard Hughess specially arranged chamber version, before Armstrong breezes through Judith Weirs brilliant Thread! (1981), an early work inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry's cartoonish images.
