Ourmissing Hearts

Whilst style wise this might be far removed from the symphonic-rock sound of Magenta it will come as no surprise to those who are familiar with Rob and Christina’s eclectic musical tastes. Along with pop and rock, elements of blues and jazz surface, all of which are handled with supreme confidence and panache. Christina’s beautiful, crystalline voice obviously takes centre stage with Rob taking care of most of the instrumental backing including keyboards, piano, bass and guitars…

In 1967 and 1968, Hearts and Flowers stood at the intersection between folk, country, and rock. The band recorded two albums, Now Is the Time for Hearts and Flowers in 1967 and Of Horses, Kids and Forgotten Women in 1968, and then disappeared. The Complete Hearts and Flowers collects both of these albums and enough extras (13 songs) for another album.

Mgła is one of the greatly hyped black metal bands of our time (and quite rightly so), playing music that is at the same time melodic, as well as crushingly dark and evil. The duo from Poland became well-known in underground circles with its early EPs and the acclaimed debut album, Groza. However, the band had its - relatively speaking - big break in 2012 with the release of the second full-length studio album, With Hearts Toward None. With Hearts Toward None is rife with fresh ideas from beginning to end, all underpinned by fantastically orthodox, Christ-baiting lyrics and tales of self-affirmation throughout. This is the sound of Mgła really getting a grasp on their special identity. With shorter songs and a longer tracklisting, there are more chances to see new sides to the band than ever before, making the record another more than worthy addition to the modern black metal landscape.
