SOMM Recordings announces the exciting label debut of Voice with Hildegard Portraits, marking the tenth anniversary of the canonisation of the 12th-century spiritual leader, theologian, mystic, scientist and composer, St. Hildegard of Bingen.

Bernhard Lang's album Voice and Ensemble offers a sonic journey through three distinct compositions. In Das Hirn he juxtaposes a solo voice with a chamber ensemble, capturing the end-time force of Durrenmatt's text through intense recitation and dynamic structures. The Travel Agency is on Fire explores William S. Burroughs' cut-up experiments, referencing his innovative techniques in an electroacoustic piece enriched with synthesizers, samplers, and a processed electric guitar. In DW 16.4 'Songbook I.4,' Lang transforms pop songs into a shattered past using the cut-up/scrambler program Abulafia. Lyrics undergo fragmented reconstruction, accompanied by damaged beats and scratch loops, creating a distinctive sonic landscape.

Since the release of his debut album "Voice from Assisi" in 2012, Friar Alessandro has captured the hearts of people around the world with his beautiful voice and enormous warmth. "Voice Of Joy" set to fill those same hearts and many, many more with the purest of joy. Voice of Joy is a collection of traditional Christmas carols, seasonal melodies and sacred arias, recorded in two very different locations: the United Kingdom and Bethlehem, the latter in the heart of the Holy Land.

The choral music of Galina Grigorjeva – born in Simperopol in Ukraine in 1962 and based in Tallinn, in Estonia, since 1994 – is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Orthodox Church and in ancient Russian and Slavonic folklore.

In 2023 the Queen Elisabeth Competition is dedicated to the voice.

Los Angeles' Joey Dosik is thrilled to announce his debut album, Inside Voice. "Inside Voice" builds gradually into 1970s-style soul, as Dosik's remarkable vocal range hovers over a sparse arrangement. It's quiet but - in keeping with the song's concept, which Dosik describes as "deep, sexual, but also kind of silly"- it's also a thrilling, intimate moment. Dosik honed his craft as part of a burgeoning Los Angeles scene that reinvents classic popular music to thrive in the present tense.

Voice & Strings & Timpani is the latest project of guitarist Stephan Meidell and drummer Øyvind Hegg-Lunde, two of the most important figures in the new wave of Norwegian music. They are also staples of the Hubro roster of artists and of the vibrant Bergen experimental music scene. Both play in the acclaimed band of violinist/fiddler Erlend Apneseth; Meidell is part of the trio Cakewalk, plus his own solo projects including the Metrics Ensemble and TRIGGER, while Hegg-Lunde plays with Building Instrument, Electric Eye and Jose Gonzales’ ‘indie’ band Junip.

The year 1979 saw the death of one of the leading players in the ‘Baroque’ revolution, undoubtedly the most famous countertenor of the twentieth century. Alfred Deller had even achieved the supreme tour de force of convincing us that, three centuries earlier, Purcell had composed his songs for him! With him the public of the 1960s and 1970s discovered not only an absolutely inimitable timbre, but also the delights of a repertory that had been slumbering in libraries until then. Forty years after his death, thanks to the meticulous process of remastering harmonia mundi has carried out on the original tapes, Alfred Deller’s art seems more alive than ever!

Pianist and composer Hiromi Uehara, whose passionate and incendiary keyboard work has been a shining light on the jazz landscape since her 2003 debut, believes that the voice that never speaks can sometimes be the most powerful of all. This recording, simply titled Voice, expresses a range of human emotions without the aid of a single lyric.
