"Sounds of Pamoja" is Nyege Nyege Tapes' latest foray into the world of Tanzanian Singeli, the breakneck dance strain that's quickly moved from Dar es Salaam throughout the world. Following "Sounds of Sisso", a compilation that focused mostly on the Tanzanian capital's Sisso Studios, this set highlights recordings from Duke's Pamoja Records. And while its predecessor brought attention to the producers, "Sounds of Pamoja" showcases the wide variety of MC talent under the Pamoja Records umbrella, with production mostly handled by Duke.

Those in the know are well aware of Bobby Marin’s work, and the fact that he was behind the scenes for some of the best boogaloo and salsa of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Yet, until now, no one has explicitly put Bobby’s name in the headline and given him his due on the cover of a properly credited Latin soul compilation. This compilation comprises twenty four essential boogaloo, Latin funk, rock and afro disco gems, each one bearing the mark of quality: “A Bobby Marin Production”, including songs by Ricardo Marrero, the Ghetto Brothers, Ocho, Louie Ramírez… A freshly curated overview of his fascinatingly complex back catalog in these genres.

Following last year’s acclaimed Jazz On The Corner compilation 2019 again sees Martin Freeman team up with Acid Jazz’s renowned head honcho Eddie Piller to present a veritable and personal collection of tracks. Compiled from the pair’s personal favourites, be it hearing on the radio, word of mouth or Dj-ing – Soul On The Corner represents the entire gamut of soul from the sixties and seventies right up to the present as illustrated by the likes of Tommy McGhee and the Acid Jazz recent signee Laville.

WH ‘Billy’ Reed (1876-1942) was Leader of the London Symphony Orchestra between 1912 and 1935. He was also a close friend of Sir Edward Elgar and a superb composer in his own right. Hardly any of his compositions have been recorded and in this release you will hear the music of a superb craftsman, rich in melodic and harmonic invention, with a real English voice. This CD, containing the 4th and 5th String Quartets and the two movement Légende, will provide well over an hour’s delightful listening performed by the Cirrus String Quartet, recorded in the fine and warm acoustic of The Space at the Pamoja Hall, The Space, Sevenoaks.
