It All Comes Down to This is the brand new album from Manchester legends A Certain Ratio, produced by Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey. This album takes A Certain Ratio back to their roots, featuring 10 straight-to-the-point tracks, with a sprinkling of electronics for good measure. It is the first time the band has recorded as the core 3-piece lineup of Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop, and Donald Johnson, with no additional collaborators or members of the live setup. Following on from ACR's acclaimed 1982 album and the electrifying 2023 EP, It All Comes Down to This continues the lineage of constant progression demonstrated by the band.

After delivering a steady stream of music between 1993 and 2007, Swedish Progressive veterans Anekdoten seemingly vanished. A 2-disc anthology surfaced in 2009 and a few live dates occurred, but otherwise, silence. Not until 2013 did the band begin circulating updates about a follow-up to 2007’s "A Time of Day". Posts on the band’s webpage clearly conveyed the group’s desire to not only release new material, but to produce something worthwhile. That level of commitment is commendable, but 8 years is still a long time for fans to wait. Imagine the anticipation that came with the band finally re-emerging with "Until All the Ghosts are Gone".

A single saxophone, a glockenspiel, two microphones, a zoom recorder. These are the materials Patrick Shiroishi brought down with him late one night into the cavernous parking structure below a hot pot restaurant in Monterey Park. It was around 1:30AM; the spot was not too far from where Shiroishi grew up, a blank slate shown to him by his dear friend, Noah Klein. A vacant space for a new kind of collaboration—between saxophone and silence, between noise and reverberation, between negative space and self.

Judging by last year’s “Grease” telecast and this year’s “A Christmas Story,” the Fox network seems to like everything about live television except the “live” part. A game cast, lively score and sturdy source material made Fox’s big holiday spectacular “A Christmas Story Live!” a pleasant enough way to pass a mid-December Sunday evening. But the presentation throughout was a letdown like getting pink bunny pajamas for Christmas instead of a Red Ryder BB gun.

One of the hardest swinging and best-loved of his 1980s recordings wraps listeners in the astonishing group sound that defined Wynton Marsalis. Firey performances by the players jazz writers dubbed “The Young Lions”: saxophonist Branford Marsalis, the “Doctone” – pianist Kenny Kirkland, the “Net Man” – bassist Charnett Moffett, drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts, and of course Wynton himself on trumpet.

This four-track release features ACR’s first-ever Christmas track, ‘Now and Laughter’ (“ACR does Christmas!” the band exclaims, “who’d have thunk it? We are big Slade fans though…”). Alongside this festive debut are three remixes from their acclaimed album It All Comes Down To This. To celebrate the season, Kerr, Moscrop, and Johnson have invited some extended ACR family to contribute: Jane Weaver, their labelmate from Rob Gretton’s much-missed label in the ‘90s, remixes ‘Where You Coming From’, while long-time friend and collaborator Emperor Machine (aka Andy Meecham) delivers an extended remix of ‘Out From Under’. Adding a fresh twist, some newer friends have been invited into the fold, with London-based Jezebell bringing the Electro-Balearic party vibe to ‘We All Need’"
