The twin sons of popular singer Marion Ryan, Paul and Barry Sapherson were launched as wholesome looking young gentlemen to attendant showbusiness publicity agents. To some, they were just another teenage act looking for fame in London, but their debut single as Paul and Barry Ryan, Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches, reached the UK Top 20 in 1965 and over the ensuing months the siblings enjoyed respectable, if unspectacular, chart placings with Have Pity On The Boy and I Love Her. The duo's numerous visits to the Paris Theatre, Playhouse Theatre and other studio sanctuaries of the BBC at the height of their pop career brought some material to the table that remain exclusive to these sessions only. These recordings give insight into not only their capacity to combine a pop career with artistic credibility but also the enduring appeal of their repertoire and the ups and downs of real people becoming 'pop stars' in the process of life. London Calling very proudly presents Paul and Barry Ryan, live at the BBC 1965-1970. Professionally re-mastered original Top Of The Pops broadcasts presented with an 8-page booklet containing background liners and rare archival photographs.

Les Paul had such a staggeringly huge influence over the way American popular music sounds today that many tend to overlook his significant impact upon the jazz world. Before his attention was diverted toward recording multi-layered hits for the pop market, he made his name as a brilliant jazz guitarist whose exposure on coast-to-coast radio programs guaranteed a wide audience of susceptible young musicians.

Richard Strauss, the great composer of symphonic poems and grand operas, wrote solo songs throughout his life: his first compositions, performed within his family circle, were songs and his setting of the poem Malven (Mallows) was to be the last piece he completed. Taking a keen interest in the possibilities and limitations of the human voice, Strauss in the solo song genre found the opportunity to try out various musical options and to discover his own individual style. But the writing of songs also served as a form of relaxation, a way of passing the time. The result is a varied spectrum of atmospheres, moods and emotions: from the jesting tone of Hat gesagt — bleibt’s nicht dabei to the heart-felt declaration of love in Cäcilie and the portrayal of madness of the Three Songs of Ophelia.

Band on the Run is the third studio album by Paul McCartney and Wings, released in December 1973. It marked the fifth album by Paul McCartney since his departure from the Beatles in April 1970. Although sales were modest initially, its commercial performance was aided by two hit singles – "Jet" and "Band on the Run" – such that it became the top-selling studio album of 1974 in the United Kingdom and Australia, in addition to revitalising McCartney's critical standing. It remains McCartney's most successful album and the most celebrated of his post-Beatles works. In 2000, Q magazine placed it at number 75 in its list of the "100 Greatest British Albums Ever". In 2012, Band on the Run was voted 418th on Rolling Stone's revised list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". A contemporary review by Jon Landau in Rolling Stone described the album as "with the possible exception of John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band, the finest record yet released by any of the four musicians who were once called the Beatles".
