With their second album, Actually, the Pet Shop Boys perfected their melodic, detached dance-pop. Where most of Please was dominated by the beats, the rhythms on Actually are part of a series of intricate arrangements that create a glamorous but disposable backdrop for Neil Tennant's tales of isolation, boredom, money, and loneliness…

"Actually" debuted at the number 2 on the UK Albums Chart upon its release in 1987. The album was produced by Julian Mendelsohn, Stephen Hague, Shep Pettibone, Andy Richards and Pet Shop Boys. This period saw Pet Shop Boys reach new critical and commercial heights with three number one singles, "It’s a Sin", "Always on My mind" and "Heart", and "What Have I Done To Deserve This?", their number two single featuring Dusty Springfield.
The "Catalogue" re-issue of "Actually" includes the remastered original album with the 2-CD album features bonus material including the Shep Pettibone mix of ‘Heart’, and demo versions and alternative mixes of tracks including "One More Chance" and "Always On My Mind".
Pet Shop Boys announce the release on DVD and 2-CD of their “Discovery: Live in Rio 1994” concert, recorded towards the end of their 1994 tour of Singapore, Australia and Latin America.
Very rivals Behaviour as Pet Shop Boys' best album, so it's appropriate that the "further listening" bonus disc on Very's installment in the 2001 expanded-edition series rivals the further listening disc for Behaviour, and perhaps even surpasses it. Like that disc, this collection doesn't rely on remixes for bonus tracks and those that do make it are quite good (a previously unreleased 12" mix of "Go West" and the hacienda version of "Violence"). The rest of the record consists of B-sides and non-LP singles (including "Absolutely Fabulous"), none of which have been collected on a disc before since they all date from an era that the double-disc set Alternative didn't cover. The great thing about this is that nearly all of the material could have fit comfortably on Very and it plays as a very infectious, absorbing listen on its own.
