Phil Colins Both Sides

"…But Seriously" is Phil Collins' fourth studio full-length album and was released in November 1989. The album featured more organic production, with much more live instrumentation as opposed to the use of drum machines. Four hit singles came from "…But Seriously", and the album topped charts worldwide.

Ben Harper's 2006 double album, containing both acoustic and electric discs, became his first American top 10 chart success and remains his most successful release, having been certified gold or platinum in at least five countries. Largely a self-produced solo affair, Harper did invite in a long list of special guests to lend their talents to specific songs, among them blues legend Charlie Musselwhite, guitarist David Lindley, multiple Grammy nominee Greg Kurstin and Marc Ford, former lead guitarist with the Black Crowes.

On March 9, Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, proudly release Both Sides of the Sky, a dynamic new Jimi Hendrix album featuring 13 studio recordings made between 1968 and 1970—10 of which have never before been released. The album will be released on multiple formats including CD, digital, and as a numbered 180 gram audiophile vinyl 2LP.

Marjorie Barnes, with a 50 years spanning career to be considered a “Grande Dame du Jazz”, teams up with the Millennium Jazz Orchestra. Their new album Both Sides Now is a celebration of the contemporary American Songbook. The Millennium Jazz Orchestra is known for a large variety of projects, often containing original big band compositions by conductor/founder Joan Reinders. This time, Joan focused on arranging material, paying tribute to the likes of Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer and Nelson Riddle.

There is an Arab concept borrowed from mysticism and literature called "barzakh", which literally designates the barrier that separates the physical and spiritual worlds. It is in this inter-world - here transatlantic - that On Both Sides of the Atlantic! shores of the ocean, as if to free oneself from space and time.

This unusual album teams together the altos of Lee Konitz, Pony Poindexter, Phil Woods and Leo Wright (along with pianist Steve Kuhn, bassist Palle Danielsson and drummer Jon Christensen) on a variety of challenging material. There are four pieces for the full septet (including one that pays tribute to both Bach and Bird), a pair of quintet performances and a ballad medley that ends in a complete fiasco (it has to be heard to be believed). Despite the latter, everyone fares well on this summit meeting.

Newly remastered in 2015. "Face Value" is Phil Collins’ exhilarating debut solo album. The seminal recording reached the Top Ten in several countries and went Platinum in Argentina, Austria, France, Switzerland, the U.K. and the United States. Collins’ distinctive vocals led hits including “I Missed Again” and “In The Air Tonight” straight into the Billboard Top Ten. Absolutely vital.

The Phil Woods Quintet shines on this collection of standards from the movies, but their fresh approach to each of these very familiar songs is what makes this release special.
