Remixed and expanded (with two additional tracks recorded but chopped off the vinyl version) for its debut on CD in 1999, this is a sturdy, workmanlike Rory Gallagher release. Reverting back to a trio, Gallagher toughens up his sound and blazes through some robust blues rockers like "Last of the Independents," "Shadow Play," and "Brute Force & Ignorance" (one of his best hard rock riffs) with nervy energy. Gallagher's swampy side emerges on "Cloak & Dagger," another song that explores his fascination with B-movie gumshoes, a common theme for the Irish blues-rocker. His guitar work is typically excellent throughout, especially on "Overnight Bag," as he overdubs himself on acoustic.

Polaroîd/Romans/Photo Review by Rolf Semprebon
Thierry Muller, who previously released a couple of avant-garde electronics records as Ilitch, came back in 1985 with this new project, Ruth, which oddly enough does not include Muller's Ilitch collaborator, Ruth Ellyeri. At first glance, Ruth's pop sensibilities and up-tempo rhythms seem to be a 180-degree about-face from the bruising soundscapes of Ilitch, and yet there is still a heavy use of electronics and certainly a lot of creativity to make this more than just dance music. A similar analogy might be Cabaret Voltaire's shift in the early '80s from its original distorted industrial music to much cleaner sounds with a dance beat and female vocals, often spoken, but still retaining some earlier avant-gardisms. Ruth's music falls somewhere in the new wave techno-pop dance music camp, though with enough oddness that it doesn't come off as some slick sellout. "Waiting for Mabelle" from Ilitch's 10 Suicides is even reworked here as an upbeat avant disco number, smoothed of all the rough edges. Marc Duconseille's horn arrangements on the opening track, "Thriller," as well as the title track, add a cinematic quality to the music. The haunting cover of Can's "She Brings the Rain" focuses more on textures, as the intensity builds through the song, hinting more at Muller's earlier work, as does the much longer track "Tu m'Ennuies," with spoken word over keyboard squall. The CD also throws in some bonus tracks. Of these, the piece "Sans Mot" as well as the short hidden track at the end of the CD are in the experimental vein of Ilitch, and both quite good, whereas the two versions of the title cut, one an early demo of it without vocals, seem more like filler.

"Photo of A Changing World" is a symbol of the fact that it is impossible to see the movement of time in a static image, unless you turns on the imagination. With the help of imagination, a person connects one old photograph with another and feels the dynamics of time. I tried to convey the feeling of this dynamics in music. This album is like recorded in the last century on an audio cassette, which was lost and found only many years later.
The genre of the album cannot be described in one word - Latin American jazz and hard rock, free jazz and free improvisation are mixed here. Each genre is a rung on a spiral staircase that we move from the past to the present.

Live Seeds is the first official live album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The album was recorded live from 1992 to 1993, at various concerts throughout Europe and Australia, at the touring stage promoting their previous studio album, Henry's Dream. Nick Cave wanted to give the songs a raw feeling as originally intended before production problems occurred. Live Seeds includes a not previously studio-recorded track, "Plain Gold Ring", which is a cover of a song performed by Nina Simone.

Jan Garbarek's icy and haunting tones on tenor and soprano are in the forefront during much of this set. He performs six originals (which have simple but picturesque titles such as "Blue Sky," "Windows" and "The Red Roof") with the assistance of guitarist Bill Connors, pianist John Taylor, bassist Eberhard Weber and drummer Jon Christensen.

FIRST VISIT LIVE OFFERS NEW MASTERING OF THE TRIO’S FIRST PERFORMANCE AT THE CELLAR CAFE, NEW YORK CITY 1964.
June of 1964 found Ayler on the verge of what was arguably the most productive phase of his journey, molding the motifs that would make up a substantial portion of his repertoire, pushing and pulling them, taffy-like, seeing how far he could possibly stretch the music while retaining its essential, spiritual core. "Heavenly Bodies" is a 1984 Canadian drama film directed by Lawrence Dane and written by Lawrence Dane and Ron Base. The film stars Cynthia Dale, Richard Rebiere, Walter George Alton, Laura Henry, Stuart Stone and Patricia Idlette. The film was released on February 1, 1985, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Samantha quits her job to open her own aerobics studio and competes with a larger club's lead instructor to become an instructor on a local fitness television show. The soundtrack to "Flashdance" knock-off isn't half bad for aficionados of pop and new wave that was dominating the charts at the time. Rare tracks from The Tubes, Dwight Twilley, Gary Wright, and Sparks might make this worth having for buffs. It's definitely a fun time capsule of the era.
