By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band.

The title of Pink Floyd's debut album is taken from a chapter in Syd Barrett's favorite children's book, The Wind in the Willows, and the lyrical imagery of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is indeed full of colorful, childlike, distinctly British whimsy, albeit filtered through the perceptive lens of LSD.

Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance.

Four years separate this album from its predecessor The Wall which placed Pink Floyd at the height of its success. A well named Final Cut (a requiem for the post war dream), which will be the last disc with Roger Waters, solitary author of this concept-album which he interprets in its almost entirety — and the only one where keyboardist Richard Wright does not appear.

The Golden Age of rock'n'roll and pop music is obviously not limited to the standoff between the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. With Pink Floyd, the options are quite different. Formed in 1965 in London, the band will slalom between progressive rock and psychedelic rock, offering soaring and experimental music, engaged and satirical texts, concept albums and bigger than life concerts, as the Anglo-saxons say … the saga will have three major chapters : the Syd Barrett era, the David Gilmour/Roger Waters era, the Waters era and the Gilmour era.

The boxset includes the albums A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987), The Division Bell (1994), and The Endless River (2014). It also includes a remixed version of A Momentary Lapse of Reason, with restored contributions by keyboardist Richard Wright and new contributions by drummer Nick Mason, to "restore the creative balance between the three Pink Floyd members". The Final Cut is the twelfth studio album by English progressive rock group Pink Floyd. It was released on 21 March 1983 by Harvest Records in the United Kingdom, and several weeks later by Columbia Records in the United States. The Final Cut is Pink Floyd's last studio album to include founding member, bassist and songwriter Roger Waters, and their only album on which he alone is credited for writing and composition. It is also the only Pink Floyd album that does not feature keyboardist Richard Wright. Waters originally planned The Final Cut as a soundtrack album for the 1982 film Pink Floyd – The Wall. With the onset of the Falklands War, he rewrote it as a concept album, exploring what he considered the betrayal of his father, who died serving in the Second World War. Most of its lyrics are sung by Waters; lead guitarist David Gilmour provides vocals on only one track. The packaging, also designed by Waters, reflects the album's war theme. The Final Cut was recorded in eight British studios from July to December 1982. Its production was dominated by increasing tensions, particularly between Waters and Gilmour. It reached the top of the UK Albums Chart, but received mixed reviews.
