The Division Bell is the fourteenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, released on 28 March 1994 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and on 4 April by Columbia Records in the United States. The second Pink Floyd album recorded without founding member Roger Waters, The Division Bell was written mostly by guitarist and singer David Gilmour and keyboardist Richard Wright. It features Wright's first lead vocal on a Pink Floyd album since The Dark Side of the Moon (1973). Gilmour's fiancée, novelist Polly Samson, co-wrote many of the lyrics, which deal with themes of communication. It was the last Pink Floyd album recorded with Wright, who died in 2008. The Division Bell received mixed reviews, but reached number one in more than 10 countries, including the UK and the US. It was certified double platinum in the US the year it was released, and triple platinum in 1999. It was followed by a tour of the US and Europe. Unused material from the Division Bell sessions became part of Pink Floyd's next album, The Endless River (2014).

The Golden Age of rock'n'roll and pop music is obviously not limited to the standoff between the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. With Pink Floyd, the options are quite different. Formed in 1965 in London, the band will slalom between progressive rock and psychedelic rock, offering soaring and experimental music, engaged and satirical texts, concept albums and bigger than life concerts, as the Anglo-saxons say … the saga will have three major chapters : the Syd Barrett era, the David Gilmour/Roger Waters era, the Waters era and the Gilmour era.

The second post-Roger Waters Pink Floyd album is less forced and more of a group effort than A Momentary Lapse of Reason - keyboard player Richard Wright is back to full bandmember status and has co-writing credits on five of the 11 songs, even getting lead vocals on "Wearing the Inside Out." Some of David Gilmour's lyrics (co-written by Polly Samson and Nick Laird-Clowes of the Dream Academy) might be directed at Waters, notably "Lost for Words" and "A Great Day for Freedom," with its references to "the wall" coming down, although the more specific subject is the Berlin Wall and the fall of Communism…

Pink Floyd’s 1994 album saw a theme of ‘communication’ running through the music. The album, which includes High Hopes, also won Pink Floyd their only Grammy Award, for Marooned. The Division Bell spawned a record-breaking tour that saw the band play an unprecedented 14 nights at London’s Earls Court, captured for the concert film P.U.L.S.E. This vinyl edition restores the full running time of all tracks over 2 LPs (original LP was edited to one disc) and the sleeve utilises additional images of the stone and metal heads.
