En 1947, au Kenya, un safari monté par un écrivain déjanté disparaît mystérieusement après avoir découvert une créature fabuleuse : une sorte de girafe géante. Quelques semaines plus tard, débarque Miss Kathy Austin, professeur de mathématiques, pour prendre son poste dans un établissement scolaire de la ville.
