OK, everybody knows the deal with Charlie Hunter. He plays either a 7 or 8 string custom guitar (mostly 7 these days) with some bass strings and some regular guitar strings, and fanned frets. The set-up allows him to play the bass line and the guitar line simultaneously like some freak of nature. Usually, though, he plays with a band and if you didn't know what was going on, you wouldn't realize that the guitarist and the bassist are the same guy, playing without overdubs. On Public Domain, he plays unaccompanied, so there is nobody else to distract from the shear genius of his instrumental work.
