This is a thoughtful double-sized adaptation of Orson Scott Card's novella on the Ender's Game universe. And in it's own measured, quiet way, it is as scathing an accusation against religious fanaticism and intolerance as any I have ever read, and as uplifting and celebratory as the best Christmas-themed comic book ever released.

now occupies Ender Wiggins' life three years after the close of Battle School. The young tactical genius, now all of nine years, has been prematurely promoted to Command School by his superiors. The creative team has done a great job in this faithful, methodical yet thoroughly engrossing adaptation of the first novel of Orson Scott Card's critically-acclaimed and multiple-award-winning Ender's Game series of books. All the details and complexities of Ender's world as he is being prepped to lead the last battle against the alien Formics is brought to vibrant life here, case in point the brutal practice sessions and battle simulations known simply as games. These comic books are a great jumping off point for the novels. I rate this series, "Outstanding."

is a one-shot publication of Marvel Comics as part of its Ender's Game series, adapted by Marvel Comics from the novel (1985), a science fiction novel by American author Orson Scott Card. It and its sequel (1986) both won Hugo and Nebula Awards, making Card the only author to win both of American science fiction's top prizes in consecutive years. Its first two just-concluded concurrent series, and --naturally already posted by yours truly--dealt with the protagonist Ender Wiggin and his friend Bean but left out subplots involving Peter's other genius older siblings, Valentine and Peter as found in the novel (and who will become leading characters in Card's later Ender Wiggin novels). This one-shot attempts to remedy that.

—"Sentient World Observation and Response Department"—was introduced in Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's , as a counterpart to Marvel's long-standing super-spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Basically, if S.H.I.E.L.D. is Earth's MI5 in the Marvel Universe, then S.W.O.R.D. is its MI6. Its principal characters are Agent Abigail Brand, Marvel Universe's favorite green-haired Skrull-killer and her boyfriend Henry McCoy, aka The Beast. Much of the action occurs on board a space station that also serves as a sort of halfway station for aliens bound for earth, an idea most of us will be certainly familiar with, from other comics titles of course. Yet the breathless action coupled with the banter and interplay between the Agent Brand and Hank McCoy brings a freshness to it all. A tuned creative team in fine form coming out with a promising new series.
