Directed by Vittorio De Sica, Shoeshine was filmed on location in postwar Rome using non-professional actors. It was inspired by the real stories of those struggling to overcome the oppressive forces of a corrupt and ineffective political system. Shoeshine is widely regarded as one of the finest films to have emerged from the Italian neorealist cinema. It was also the first foreign film to receive an Oscar. "The high quality of this motion picture," noted the Academy, "brought to eloquent life in a country scarred by war, is proof to the world that the creative spirit can triumph over adversity."

The Spirit of the Beehive (El espíritu de la colmena), widely regarded as the greatest Spanish film of the 1970s. In a small Castilian village in 1940, in the wake of the country's devastating civil war, six-year-old Ana attends a traveling movie show of Frankenstein and becomes possessed by the memory of it. Produced as Franco’s long regime was nearing its end, The Spirit of the Beehive is a bewitching portrait of a child’s haunted inner life and one of the most visually arresting movies ever made.

Réalisateur à succès, Mel Funn voit sa carrière compromise par un irrésistible penchant pour l'alcool. Aidé par Marty et Dom, ses deux amis fidèles, il décide de tenter un ultime retour à Hollywood. Dans ce but, il désire monter un projet novateur : tourner un film muet et burlesque interprété par quelques-unes des plus grandes vedettes du moment. Mais l'heure est venue de trouver des producteurs.
SILENT MOVIE is director Mel Brooks's comic tribute to the golden days of the silent screen. A movie within a movie, SILENT MOVIE stars Brooks as Mel Funn, a filmmaker who has seen better days–for one thing, he's just come out of a bout with the bottle. When his best friends (Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuise) rescue him from despair and convince him to make another attempt at moviemaking, Mel comes up with an idea–a silent picture. Alas, this is the 1970s, and in order to get backing from wacky, frazzled studio chief Sid Caesar, the three pals have to get lots of celebrities to agree to be in their silent picture. SILENT MOVIE is, in fact, silent, and all the celebrities play themselves (or parodies of themselves). Funny, warm, and packed with sight gags galore, the film evokes the days of Chaplin, Keaton, and Pickford and Fairbanks while remaining oddly, and wondrously, contemporary. There is hardly a funnier scene than when Burt Reynolds–vainly admiring himself in the mirror while showering–is talked-up about the movie by DeLuise, Brooks, and Feldman, all in the shower together.

The film is set in Martinique under the Vichy regime. In this exotic location, the world-weary fishing boat captain Harry 'Steve' Morgan (Humphrey Bogart) is urged to help the French Resistance smuggle some people onto the island. He is hesitant, until the person who had been hiring out his fishing boat gets accidentally shot. In desperation because he will not be able to recover the $825 he is owed, he ends up working with the Resistance and smuggles a husband and wife onto Martinique. Meanwhile, a romance unfolds between Harry and Marie 'Slim' Browning (Lauren Bacall), an American pickpocket who has come to the island. Throughout the movie, he has to prop up his buddy, Eddie (Walter Brennan), a rummy who is constantly requesting drinks and is the ultimate loose-end as he stumbles from scene to scene with Bogie and Bacall.
En 1942, Harry Morgan, le propriétaire d'un yacht à la Martinique, gagne sa vie en emmenant à la pêche de riches touristes. Gerard, gaulliste convaincu et patron de l'hôtel où il loge, demande à Harry de l'aider à faire entrer clandestinement dans l'île un chef de la Résistance. D'abord réticent, Harry accepte, acculé par le besoin d'argent. Il vient en effet de rencontrer une jeune Américaine, Marie. Ils s'aiment et veulent quitter l'île.
