Rebound by Yolanda Olson

On The Rebound is the 1999 album by progressive rock band Drifting Sun. This project is self-released.

The Olson Band burst onto the country music scene in 2013 when they won a national songwriting contest for their hit song "Sunrise" in the Texaco Country Showdown, winning them a trip to Nashville to consult with a publishing company and being introduced at The Grand Ole' Opry. The band originated in Olympia, WA and is lead by singer/songwriters and brothers Luke and Isaac Olson and recent addition, Kaylee Rose Olson. Since then, the band has released two full length albums “Lookin’ At You” and “Let The Jack Drop” and an EP “A New High”. They have toured heavily up in the Pacific Northwest the past few years playing in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, along with receiving radio time in WA for their singles “Kiss Me Slow”, “By and By” and most recently “If I Find You”.

An exquisite pairing of talent, the duo of Carla Olson and Gene Clark apparently came out of casual living room sessions while Clark was preparing for another project. The feeling of spontaneity and closeness of spirit engulfs all of the cuts here. Olson's strident and powerful vocals mesh beautifully with Clark's slightly world-weary, soulful performances. As for the material, both songwriters obviously put their best foot forward here. Olson's "The Drifter" and "Are We Still Making Love" are excellent country-folk outings. Clark contributes one of his finest later compositions, "Gypsy Rider," a multi-leveled song that can easily be viewed as autobiographical. Excellent support is provided by an array of backing musicians, especially Stephen McCarthy (lap steel and dobro) and guest Chris Hillman (mandolin). The only sad thing is that So Rebellious a Lover was to be the only studio effort by the duo before Clark passed away in 1991. This record is important not only for what it is, but for what it could have become.

Five Minutes for Earth is a project that both celebrates our planet and illuminates our challenge to preserve it. In 2020, I asked each of the composers featured in this collection if they would consider contributing a work for solo harp of approximately five minutes in length that expresses a powerful experience inspired by Earth in one of its many conditions or atmospheres. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of their immediate responses and set about assembling this labor-of-love project.
